If your company has an ambitious set of sustainability goals, you’ll already know that they can’t be achieved from the safety of global headquarters. What you need is a network: a small army of people from across the business who know their department, country or brand inside out, and who can find the right way to embed sustainability. Change, when it happens, is usually driven locally, taking into account the priorities, environment and culture of each business area. If you’ve spent a long time persuading senior management that the sustainability agenda is business-critical, it’s difficult to place the delivery of your precious goals in the hands of others. But you can’t be everywhere at once! Networks for Sustainability gives you the tools to review and improve your sustainability network, whether you’re revitalizing a group of champions or setting up your network from scratch.

Children's Geographies is an overview of a rapidly expanding area of cutting edge research. Drawing on original research and extensive case studies in Europe, North and South America, Africa and Asia, the book analyses children's experiences of playing, living and learning. The diverse case studies range from an historical analysis of gender relationss in nineteenth century North American playgrounds through to children's experiences of after school care in contemporary Britain, to street cultures amongst homeless children in Indonesia at the end of the twentieth century. Threaded through this empirical diversity, is a common engagement with current debates about the nature of childhood. The individual chapters draw on contemporary sociological understandings of children's competence as social actors. In so doing they not only illustrate the importance of such an approach to our understandings of children's geographies, they also contribute to current debates about spatiality in the social studies of childhood.

Feeling Things

This interdisciplinary essay collection investigates the various interactions of people, feelings, and things throughout premodern Europe. It focuses on the period before mass production, when limited literacy often prioritised material methods of communication. The subject of materiality has been of increasing significance in recent historical inquiry, alongside growing emphasis on the relationships between objects, emotions, and affect in archaeological and sociological research. The historical intersections between materiality and emotions, however, have remained under-theorised, particularly with respect to artefacts that have continuing resonance over extended periods of time or across ...

Lucy

The severely and persistently mentally ill (SPMI) have been ignored, ridiculed, stigmatized, locked away in prisons, forgotten in hospitals, or left to wander the streets of our small and large cities. LUCY is a mother's story of her daughter's long struggle with a relentless brain disease-schizophrenia-that has no cure and gives no quarter. It's past time to recognize that Lucy and thousands like her need ASYLUM-places of care, protection, and refuge-in a world that's passed them by. "Lucy, the Anguish of Schizophrenia was revised in 2005. That book was used for four semesters in a mental health nursing lab course at the College of Nursing at Florida State University in Tallahassee. It is currently being used for the third year as part of the curriculum in psychiatric nursing at Chattanooga State Technical Community College in Chattanooga, TN and as recommended reading for graduate family therapy courses at the University of Maryland School of Nursing in Baltimore, MD." Key Concepts in Geography

Including ten new chapters on nature, globalization, development, and risk and a new section on practicing geography, this is a completely revised and updated edition of the bestselling, standard student resource. The Second Edition of Key Concepts in Geography explains the key terms – space, time, place, scale, landscape - that define the language of geography. It is unique in the reference literature as it provides - in one volume – concepts from both human geography and physical geography; especially relevant now that environment is so critical to our understanding of geography.

As Tony Blair has said, "Technology has revolutionised the way we work and is now set to transform education. Children cannot be effective in tomorrow's world if they are trained in yesterday's skills." Cyberkids draws together research in the sociology of childhood and social studies of technology to explore children's experiences in the Information Age. The book addresses key policy debates about social inclusion and exclusion, children's identities and friendships in on-line and off-line worlds and their relationships with families and teachers. It counters contemporary moral panics about children's risk from dangerous strangers on-line, about corruption and lost innocence from adult-centred material on the web and about the addiction to life on the screen. Instead, by showing how children use ICT in balanced and sophisticated ways, the book draws out the importance of everyday uses of technology and the ways in which children's local experiences are embedded within, and in part, constitute the global.
