Cancer immunometabolism is an emerging field exploring cellular bioenergetic alterations in both tumor and immune cells and their impact on tumor immune surveillance and therapy resistance. Multiple concepts have emerged including metabolic competition over nutrients and the secretion of (toxic) metabolic byproducts by cancer cells. Moreover, cancer cells are capable of utilizing and shaping their surrounding microenvironment to their favor, e.g. by reprogramming stroma cells to produce essential nutrients or by providing metabolically relevant signaling molecules to foster the accumulation of immunosuppressive cells. Most importantly, this crosstalk within the tumor microenvironment is mostly multi-directional and a better understanding of the complex interactions may pave the way to improved and/or novel therapeutic strategies to overcome those obstacles.
This Research Topic aims to honour the 80th birthday of Professor Peter Illes, who is a member of the European Academy of Sciences, the founder/first president of the German Purine Club, and Honorary President of the Chinese Purine Club. He established a worldwide co-operation network on purinergic signalling and is an internationally recognized leader in the field. We aim to collect research articles and reviews from friends, colleagues and co-operation partners of Dr. Illes to showcase, build on and develop research being achieved related to the physiological/pathophysiological roles of purines in the central nervous system (CNS). Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) is an intracellular energy-sto...
Store-operated calcium channels are found in most animal cells and regulate many cellular functions including cell division, growth, differentiation, and cell death. This volume provides a concise and informative overview of the principles of store-operated calcium entry and the key developments in the field from researchers who have led these advances. The overall goal of the volume is to provide interested students and investigators with sufficient information to enable a broad understanding of the progress and current excitement in the field. The volume contains a wealth of information that even experienced investigators in the field will find useful. - The volume provides a comprehensive overview of the mechanisms and functions of store-operated calcium channels - Contributors are authoritative researchers who have produced important advances in the field - The volume is well-illustrated with cartoons and data to facilitate easy comprehension of the subject
The book's purpose is to help community-based primary care physicians and nurses, and laboratory-based microbiologists, better understand each other's requirements in collecting and interpreting specimens, and thus to improve the quality of patient care, while saving resources and reducing unnecessary antibiotic prescription. The book's structure fo

Lactic acid fermentation has been practiced for thousands of years mainly to preserve surplus and perishable foodstuff and also to enhance them organoleptically. Lactic acid fermentation of fruits and vegetables is no exception, leading to the production of a wide range of products, some of which are now considered as characteristic of certain geographical areas and cultures. The aim of this book is to collect, present, and discuss all available information regarding lactic acid fermentation of fruits and vegetables. For this purpose, an international group of experts was invited to contribute their knowledge and experience in a highly informative and comprehensive way. The book consists of ...
Hydroinformatics is the branch of informatics that applies information and communication to address the crucial problems of the efficient use of water. Computational hydraulics is one of the major disciplines that fall under the domain of hydroinformatics. It primarily focuses on the numerical simulation of water flows and related processes. Different techniques of artificial intelligence are applied in the field of hydroinformatics. A few of them are artificial neural networks, support vector machines and genetic programming. Hydroinformatics draws from the diverse fields of hydrology, hydraulics, data mining and environmental engineering. This book provides comprehensive insights into the field of hydroinformatics. It will help the readers in keeping pace with the rapid changes in this field. The aim of this book is to present researches that have transformed this discipline and aided its advancement.
