This edited book focuses on the interconnections of STEM and Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) in higher education and offers novel approaches to reintegrating them. It paradoxically informs readers of how HSS got relegated to the periphery in the capitalist-driven higher education market and the pressing need to re-organise higher education to meet the demands of competencies in the same education industry. The contributors, including eminent scholars from academia and industry, decision-makers, and researchers, bring nuanced perspectives on integrating HSS into STEM through the global north and south lens. The book is divided into five parts providing a comprehensive understanding of th...

The two-volume set LNAI 9119 and LNAI 9120 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 14th International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Soft Computing, ICAISC 2015, held in Zakopane, Poland in June 2015. The 142 revised full papers presented in the volumes, were carefully reviewed and selected from 322 submissions. These proceedings present both traditional artificial intelligence methods and soft computing techniques. The goal is to bring together scientists representing both areas of research. The first volume covers topics as follows neural networks and their applications, fuzzy systems and their applications, evolutionary algorithms and their applications, classification and estimation, computer vision, image and speech analysis and the workshop: large-scale visual recognition and machine learning. The second volume has the focus on the following subjects: data mining, bioinformatics, biometrics and medical applications, concurrent and parallel processing, agent systems, robotics and control, artificial intelligence in modeling and simulation and various problems of artificial intelligence.

Reimagining Border in Cross-border Education

Universities are inherently and definitionally universal in their quest for the creation and dissemination of knowledge. They are set to defy borders that exist in parochial forms. Globalization which opened up borders has by design or default created inequalities and imbalances in knowledge systems. Undoubtedly, knowledge is power but there is difference in the power that is intrinsic to it and the power that is ascribed which is determined by dominant political and economic hierarchies. If knowledge predominantly flows from global north to global south, people seeking knowledge move from global south to global north. These imbalances are also seen within these regions, between cultures and communities, one claiming superiority over the other. These realities call for a reassessment of not only what constitutes knowledge, but also what encompasses the idea of borders. This book elaborates on the inclusive role of education that can act as an equalizer or as a catalyst for creating a level playing field across borders. Synergies in Analysis, Discrete Mathematics, Soft Computing and Modelling

This book contains select papers on mathematical analysis and modeling, discrete mathematics, fuzzy sets, and soft computing. All the papers were presented at the international conference on FIM28-SCMSPS20 virtually held at Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar (SSN) College of Engineering, Chennai, India, and Stella Maris College (Autonomous), Chennai, from November 23–27, 2020. The conference was jointly held with the support of the Forum for Interdisciplinary Mathematics. Both the invited articles and submitted papers were broadly grouped under three heads: Part 1 on analysis and modeling (six chapters), Part 2 on discrete mathematics and applications (six chapters), and Part 3 on fuzzy sets and soft computing (three chapters).
