Structural Dynamics with X-ray and Electron Scattering
Since the early 20th century, X-ray and electron scattering has provided a powerful means by which the location of atoms can be identified in gas-phase molecules and condensed matter with sub-atomic spatial resolution. Scattering techniques can also provide valuable observables of the fundamental properties of electrons in matter such as an electron’s spin and its energy. In recent years, significant technological developments in both X-ray and electron scattering have paved the way to time-resolved analogues capable of capturing real-time snapshots of transient structures undergoing a photochemical reaction. Structural Dynamics with X-ray and Electron Scattering is a two-part book that firstly introduces the fundamental background to scattering theory and photochemical phenomena of interest. The second part discusses the latest advances and research results from the application of ultrafast scattering techniques to imaging the structure and dynamics of gas-phase molecules and condensed matter. This book aims to provide a unifying platform for X-ray and electron scattering.
Global Marine Science and Carlsberg - The Golden Connections of Johannes Schmidt (1877-1933)
By accident, the world-famous brewery Carlsberg became a central force in global marine science during the first three decades of the 20th century. Within a core group of scientists and managers, Johannes Schmidt (1877-1933) was the key figure combining the efforts of the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES), the Danish state and several private companies. Launching 26 oceangoing expeditions Schmidt made landmark discoveries such as the breeding ground for the Atlantic eel in the Sargasso Sea. The scientific frontier was pushed literally kilometres into the deep sea and across the World’s oceans. While the formal North Atlantic Empire of the small state of Denmark was in decline, an informal empire of science was erected instead. Shortlisted for the Society for Nautical Research Anderson Medal for published works on Maritime History in 2016.

Grundlage der vorliegenden Bibliographie sind die 29 Bände der Bibliographischen Berichte, die als universaler Nachweis von Bibliographien von 1959 bis 1987 erschienen sind. Ziel der Internationalen Bibliographie der Bibliographien 1959-1988 ist es, den Gesamtdatenbestand in kumulierter Form leicht zugänglich zu machen. Die Titel sind in einer einheitlichen Systematik nach Themengebieten zusammengefasst. Insgesamt werden ca. 176.000 Titel erschlossen. Bibliothekaren, Dokumentaren und Informationsvermittlern wird mit den Bibliographien der zweiten Stufe ein wichtiges Hilfsmittel für die Selektion und Wertung von Bibliographien an die Hand gegeben.
