Loren has always loved the fabled stone necklace her mother keeps hidden in her jewellery box. Steeped in lore and legend, it is said that it must be guarded from all who seek it. Unable to resist the lure of the beautiful stone, Loren accidentally invokes its magical properties, catapulting them to another realm. Soon everything is wrong. The Welsh valleys are flooded, the moon is fractured, and dragons—who should only live in storybooks—fill the skies. As Loren and her two siblings are drawn into a future that is barely recognisable, they team up with Orca, a cowardly lechrad, who helps them travel the enchanted land and protect the stone. They’ll need to fight evil and right their wrongs if they ever hope to return home again—and the stone’s peculiar magic might be their only chance.
Laura and Sophie are best friends. They are even growing their own friendship tree! But one day, Laura's brother, Tommy, accidentally breaks the sapling. What will Sophie say? Will their friendship be ruined? Maybe Laura's special friend, the star, can help her out once more.
Disturbance is a novel in verse by Ivy Alvarez that chronicles a multiple homicide, a tragic case of domestic violence, where a family was gunned down by the husband and father. The book features poems in a kaleidoscope of voices from all the characters involved. We first meet the family itself and witness how the father's controlling attitude gradually escalates into violence. Then we get the aftermath: the authorities, police and neighbours, who all might have helped to prevent this tragedy. This is a very dark book, but a courageous one, ultimately about evil and its presence in our everyday lives. The fact that this family was relatively well-to-do, seemingly prosperous and well-connected, adds another layer of intrigue and mystery. There is some graphic violence, but the emphasis is on the characters and their motivations. This masterpiece of brutality veined with tenderness will skewer you to its pages. A tour de force - utterly original and brave. - Sally Spedding Disturbance is a precise, pained, and wondrous book. - Teju Cole

A dark and chilling collection of tales to make the blood run cold, Sing, Sorrow Sorrow features short stories from contemporary Welsh writers.
In this rich, three-part collection of poems, Bragr ('poetry' in Old Norse), Ross Cogan re-imagines tales from Norse Mythology for our times. Part one evokes Norse creation myths. Part two, 'Bestiary', contains eulogies for vanishing wildlife. Part three, 'Ragnarök', reinterprets the apocalypse myth of the 'Twilight of the Gods'.
Ben Wilkinson is a Yorkshire-based poet, critic and lecturer. Same Difference is his second poetry collection, to follow his popular football-themed debut, Way More Than Luck. Acute formal skill combined with a darkly ironic view of contemporary culture and society combine to create keenly questioning, and profoundly entertaining poems.
An artful collection of poems by noted Welsh poet Paul Henry, Boy Running is the first to follow his widely praised The Brittle Sea. A singer-songwriter, Henry is known for his precise lyricism, intimate tone, and a cast of characters inspired by his childhood by the sea in Aberystwyth, West Wales. The lyrical beauty of the poems will appeal to those who enjoy folk music, and anyone going through divorce will empathize with the poet/protagonist of the poems.
