Dear Counsellor

Have you ever been in a place in your life where you feel like nothing is moving? Have you ever been at a point in your life where you feel like life is not worth living and you’re ready to go to heaven? Have you ever been knocked down by life and you just don’t have the strength to get back up? That’s exactly how I felt and that is what led me to see a counselor. I’ve never been one to believe in counselors. I’ve always believed that counselors are just time consuming and a waste of money. Why would I pay so much money just to narrate my story to someone? Nevertheless my friend referred me to her Counselor and told me He didn’t require any money. I had decided to just go and see Him just in case He could do justice to my fading life.

Four Russian Serf Narratives contains four of these accounts and is the first translated collection of autobiographies by serfs. Scholar and translator John MacKay brings to light for an English-language audience a diverse sampling of Russian serf narratives, ranging from an autobiographical poem to stories of ...
