Through a comprehensive survey of human rights scholarship, Shannon Morreira explores the ways in which the global framework of human rights is locally interpreted, constituted, and contested in Harare, Zimbabwe, and Musina and Cape Town, South Africa. Presenting the stories of those who lived through the violent struggles of the past decades, Morreira shows how supposedly universal ideals become localized in the context of post-colonial Southern Africa. Rights After Wrongs uncovers the disconnect between the ways human rights appear on paper and the ways in which it is possible for people to use and understand them in everyday life.

The book argues that academics, academic developers and academic leaders need to undertake curriculum work in their institutions that has the potential to disrupt common sense notions about curriculum and create spaces for engagement with scholarly concepts and theories, to re‑imagine curricula for the changing times. Now, more than ever in the history of higher education, curriculum practices and processes need to be shared; the findings of research undertaken on curriculum need to be disseminated to inform curriculum work. We hope the book will enable readers to look beyond their contextual difficulties and constraints, to find spaces where they can dream, and begin to implement, innovative and creative solutions to what may seem like intractable challenges or difficulties.
This book is a critical reflection on the life and career of the late legendary Zimbabwean music icon, Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi, and his contribution towards the reconstruction of Zimbabwe, Africa and the globe at large. This book presents an approach to transform German Studies by augmenting its core values with a social justice mission rooted in Cultural Studies. German Studies is approaching a pivotal moment. On the one hand, the discipline is shrinking as programs face budget cuts. This enrollment decline is immediately tied to the effects following a debilitating scrutiny the discipline has received as a result of its perceived worth in light of local, regional, and national pressures to articulate the value of the humanities in the language of student professionalization. On the other hand, German Studies struggles to articulate how the study of cultural, social, and political developments in the German-speaking world can serve increasingly heterogeneous student learners.
