This second of three volumes from the inaugural NODYCON, held at the University of Rome, in February of 2019, presents papers devoted to Nonlinear Dynamics and Control. The collection features both well-established streams of research as well as novel areas and emerging fields of investigation. Topics in Volume II include influence of nonlinearities on vibration control systems; passive, semi-active, active control of structures and systems; synchronization; robotics and human-machine interaction; network dynamics control (multi-agent systems, leader-follower dynamics, swarm dynamics, biological networks dynamics); and fractional-order control.
Plant extracts are widely used for therapeutic purposes. The vegetal origin of these products satisfies people’s desire to cure themselves with natural drugs; this aspect, together with effectiveness and regulatory opportunities, is the base of the broad modern use of medicinal plants. Traditional uses and novel biological effects allow the availability of an extraordinarily high number of different compounds with formidable therapeutic potential. Nevertheless, pitfalls are hidden behind poor pharmacological and toxicological knowledge of plant extracts, nonstandardized methods of extraction, and undefined and nonrepeatable qualitative and quantitative composition. In this context, novel experimental studies on plant products and appreciated and are necessary to reinforce the scientific soundness of phytotherapy. This book aims to respond to this medical need comprehensively highlighting the newest discoveries in vegetal resources with an emphasis on pharmacological activity.
Annotation. This is volume I of the proceedings of the Second International Conference on Natural Computation, ICNC 2006. After a demanding review process 168 carefully revised full papers and 86 revised short papers were selected from 1915 submissions for presentation in two volumes. Recent advancements and cost reduction in various omics technologies have provided us with a wealth of data at the molecular, cellular and organ levels. Other types of comprehensive data sets are also increasingly available at the individual, community and population levels. The integration of these different types of data are enabling multidisciplinary convergences in diagnostics and biomarker discovery in various biomedical fields to realize a more holistic, systems biology view of diseases. Such integrated approaches have also proven useful in the field of endocrinology, particularly in better understanding complex, heterogeneous diseases such as type 2 diabetes mellitus. For instance, researchers have combined genotyping data and RNA-sequencing data with glycomics and lipidomics to identify potential biomarkers in type 2 diabetes.
