Maturin Ballou was settled in Providence, Rhode Island as early as 1646, where he married Hannah Pike. Four of their six or seven children survived. Descendants are scattered throughout eastern United States.
Voices from a Wilderness Expedition
The purpose of "Voices from a Wilderness Expedition" is to reawaken the now silent voices of the brave men who made the historic 1775 march through the Maine wilderness with Benedict Arnold to attack Quebec and conquer Canada. This book is not a chronological history of the expedition, but rather offers details and new information about the lives of the men who participated and, equally important, the journals that chronicaled the hardships of the march. It contains significant new information on both the men and the journals that has never been published. A Census of Pensioners for Revolutionary Or Military Services
The body of this consolidated work is a list of 25,000 Revolutionary War pensioners still living in 1840, with their ages and the names of the heads of families with whom they were residing. Based upon the returns of the Sixth Census of the U.S., the arrangement is by state or territory, thereunder by county, and in the case of some counties, by minor subdivision. Thus a good deal about the origins of settlers of each county of the United States, as well as the magnitude of migration into the various areas of the country, can be gleaned from an examination of this work. The Census of Pensioners is here reprinted with the typescript index to the work prepared by the Genealogical Society of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1965.
