The book follows the major tracks of Sabine Kacunko ́s artistic development which commenced with analogue b/w photography, slide photography and photographic installations and led to interactive light and closed circuit video installations, media performances and permanent installations. The range of the presented works also covers audio and networked sculpture and choreography as well as performances and projections in public spaces, conceived for and accomplished in collaboration with major cultural heritage sites and scientific institutions, media partners and diplomatic offices. With Sabine Kacunko's bacteria art in mind, alleged contradictions between the cultural and natural heritage- and health-issues have become the focus of attention. The Art and Science of Interface and Interaction Design
Artists and creators in interactive art and interaction design have long been conducting research on human-machine interaction. Through artistic, conceptual, social and critical projects, they have shown how interactive digital processes are essential elements for their artistic creations. Resulting prototypes have often reached beyond the art arena into areas such as mobile computing, intelligent ambiences, intelligent architecture, fashionable technologies, ubiquitous computing and pervasive gaming. Many of the early artist-developed interactive technologies have influenced new design practices, products and services of today's media society. The Imagery and Politics of Sexual Violence in Early Renaissance Italy
This book is the first comprehensive study of images of rape in Italian painting at the dawn of the Renaissance. Drawing on a wide range of primary sources, Péter Bokody examines depictions of sexual violence in religion, law, medicine, literature, politics, and history writing produced in kingdoms (Sicily and Naples) and city-republics (Florence, Siena, Lucca, Bologna and Padua). Whilst misogynistic endorsement characterized many of these visual discourses, some urban communities condemned rape in their propaganda against tyranny. Such representations of rape often link gender and aggression to war, abduction, sodomy, prostitution, pregnancy, and suicide. Bokody also traces how the new naturalism in painting, introduced by Giotto, increased verisimilitude, but also fostered imagery that coupled eroticism and violation. Exploring images and texts that have long been overlooked, Bokody's study provides new insights at the intersection of gender, policy, and visual culture, with evident relevance to our contemporary condition.
The Artist as Inventor
Today the media arts not only address the great themes of our times, they inhabit the very media of which they speak. The contemporary is global, but only because of the media that enable globalisation. Those media are almost nowhere apparent in the mainstream practice of art that we see in biennials from Venice to Sao Paolo.
