Este livro busca contribuir para a compreensão do processo de institucionalização das ciências biomédicas em São Paulo e também ampliar o conhecimento sobre as relações entre este campo disciplinar e a saúde pública neste Estado. Seu principal objetivo é mostrar que a Sociedade de Medicina e Cirurgia de São Paulo teve atuação destacada na institucionalização da medicina paulista, desempenhando um papel diferenciado do que foi posto em marcha pelo Serviço Sanitário e seus institutos de pesquisa. Para isso, são observados os aspectos tipicamente institucionais da Sociedade - seu modelo organizativo, relação com outras instituições, períodos de maior ou menor atividade etc. - bem como imagens que mostram a Sociedade em ação - suas atividades, principais controvérsias, atores e grupos envolvidos. Assim, por um ângulo diferenciado, é possível observar as vicissitudes da Instituição na luta por um lugar de destaque no campo médico paulista.

The Palgrave Biographical Encyclopedia of Psychology in Latin America
This biographical encyclopedia will provide the first comprehensive reference work on leading scholars and professionals who have contributed to the development and institutionalization of psychology in Latin America. The figures biographed will include scholars who have made a significant theoretical contribution to the discipline, as well as, practitioners and those who have contributed to the institutionalization of psychology, through their work in scientific organisations, professional bodies and publications.
