Digital learning is enabling new and innovative approaches to learning in different domains. The rapid development of technology makes digital learning ubiquitous and offers more self-directed ways of learning. However, digital learning also comes with disadvantages such as poor learning outcomes that have to be addressed systematically. A promising approach is to put the understanding and scaffolded design of digital learning processes at the center. Andreas Janson presents approaches for scaffolding digital learning processes for the domains of higher education and vocational training. These approaches are based on a holistic understanding of learning processes in digital environments. The empirical evaluations show that learning processes are critical for learning outcomes in digital environments. Finally, the results from field experiments show that the scaffolding of a digital learning process enables for better learning outcomes.
