My Life - Born in Free Tibet, Served in Exile

Tashi Wangdi devoted his life to serve His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan people in their peaceful and nonviolent struggle for truth, justice and freedom. He paints a riveting account of his life, starting with his happy childhood in Tibet, which was shattered in 1959, following the Chinese Communist invasion. After fleeing with his family to India, he was among the initial group of 25 students to be educated at the first school His Holiness established, soon after arriving in India. He dedicated the next 40 years of his life to the Tibetan cause, rising to the top leadership ranks in the Tibetan government in exile, serving as the Minister of 6 different portfolios and also as His Holiness' Representative in New Delhi, New York and Brussels. His detailed and fascinating first-hand account covers many seminal moments in the history of the Tibetan people in exile, including the beginnings of a nascent Tibetan government in exile, its negotiations with the Chinese government, and His Holiness receiving international recognition with the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize, the US Congressional Gold Medal, and Honorary Canadian Citizenship, among others.

Three Lives in One Lifetime

At this very crucial juncture of Tibet’s history sharing of experiences of the Tibetan elders is a must for a deeper understanding of our people’s history, and culture by the younger Tibetan generation. As indicated by the very title of the book, Kirti Rinpoche not only has a good understanding of religion, culture and everyday life in Tibet before the invasion of the Chinese Communists, but he also witnessed the Communist invasion, the suppression of the Tibetan people, and the flight into exile. As opposed to what is happening in Tibet itself he has also witnessed the Tibetans in exile preserving their religion and culture in a foreign country, maintaining their national identity, and developing a democratic political system and society. He himself participated in many of these noble deeds envisioned by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and made significant contribution in following His guidance. The very active work of dissemination of Tibetan culture and religion by the Kirti Monastery under his leadership is a living example of his dedication. Ven. Geshe Lhakdor

A Treasury of Jewels: A Biography of Geshe Yeshe Thabkhe

A Treasury of Jewels : A Biography of Geshe Yeshe Thabkhe By Jamyang Gyaltsen Translated and edited by: Tsepak Rigzin and Bradford Priddy, M.D. There is even a traditional belief that if one of your son becomes a monk, you acquire merit equivalent to constructing a stupa. The great spiritual master venerable Gen Yeshe Thabkhe studied the five major monastic texts with much determination, day and night, at the behest of his teachers such as Gen Jamyang Nyishar while venerating his spiritual teachers properly at the great monastic university of Drepung, the source of hundreds of millions of scholars. But there is a Tibetan saying, “Devils in the place of Dharma practice,” and Gen la encountered two such unavoidable obstacles. Through this biography we learn of the hardships he faced in Tibet to become one of the foremost scholars of Gelug geshes, a master of logic and debate, while living a life of humility. We present you this book in accordance with a Tibetan saying, “Biographies of past masters are the practice for the disciples who follow.”

Debate in Tibetan Buddhist Education

Debate in Tibetan Buddhist Education The practice and theory of Tibetan Buddhist logic and epistemology is the focus of this clear and thorough exposition. Debate is the investigative technique used in Tibetan education to sharpen analytical capacities and convey philosophical concepts, so it is essential to master its procedure. Using a debate manual by Pur-bu-jok Jam-ba-gya-tso (1825–1901) as his basis, Daniel Perdue covers elementary debate and demonstrates its application to a variety of secular and religious educational contexts. The translation is supplied with annotations on procedure and content drawn from Tibetan teachers expert in debate.

Toppled World

It was Spring of 1959 and the Chinese occupation of Tibet was in full swing. In the midst of all the turmoil and unease was Sudha Johorey, wife of the political officer in charge of the Indian Mission in Yatung, worried about the state of affairs for her beloved Tibet, the souring relationship between India and China and above all her friend, HH The Dalai Lama who was rumored to have left Lhasa for sanctuary in India. Thus begins the extraordinary journey of a young woman and her unlikely friendship with HH The Dalai Lama, her adventures as a diplomat’s wife across India, Afghanistan, and the jungles of frontier states of her country and her unique and personal journey with the teachings of the Buddha. Toppled World is a moving personal account of the life of Sudha Johorey and a rare glimpse into the events that shaped India in the early years of independence as well as her own spiritual philosophy, as recounted to her dear friend Susan Murphy through stories and memories.

Unravelling Divine Secrets

The compilation of this book originates from my interest in the unique process of vetting, identifying, recognizing and confirmation of Dorje Pawo-tsal of Kirti Monastery as a State protector of the Gadhen Phodrang and Ven. Lobsang Tashi, as its authentic medium by Dharmaraja Nechung, His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama (HHDL), and His Eminence the Eleventh Kirti Rinpoche. In the year 2000, Dorje Pawo-tsal (in the form of Ven. Lobsang Tashi, the medium) came calling in Dharamsala, claiming to have been summoned by Palden Lhamo and Nechung Chogyal, the two principal State protector deities of Tibet. Through a unique process of vetting, Dorje Pawo-tsal was officially promoted and confirmed as a State protector based on various transcendental communications, portents, signs and actual communication with other officiating State oracles like the Nechung, Pehar Gyalpo, Lha-chen Tshangpa, Lhamo Yudron-ma as well as acknowledged masters such as His Eminence the Eleventh Kirti Rinpoche and His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

The modern history of Ladakh has been profoundly shaped by influences from South Asia and beyond. In detailed empirical case-studies the contributors document and analyse change and continuities in this region brought about by colonialism, independence and modernisation. In an introductory review essay highlighting emerging themes and continuing debates in the scholarship on Ladakh, the editors argue for the need to situate Ladakh in an Indian and South Asian context, while also taking into account its cultural, linguistic and historical ties with Tibet. Studies from the neighbouring (sub)regions of Kargil, Ladakh, Zangskar and Baltistan are brought together to make an important contribution to the anthropological and sociological literature on development and modernity, as well as to Ladakh, Tibetan and South Asian studies.

The Political Rivalry between the Regents

Dispelling decades of rumor and hearsay, The Political Rivalry Between the Regents: Radreng and Tagdrag brings to light the hidden events surrounding Radreng Rinpoche’s imprisonment and final days in 1947. Based on the oral account of Tsedrung Shartse Yeshe Thupten and translated into English by Yangchen Dolkar Tsatultsang, this concise work unveils the narrative from the unique perspective of a prison guard who witnessed the regent’s last moments. Through Yeshe Thupten’s words, readers are offered a rare glimpse into the political intrigue, betrayal, and profound tensions that marked a turbulent chapter in Tibetan history, as well as the attempts to reclaim the truth long overshadowed by rumors.
