Clinical Perfusion MRI

MR perfusion imaging is an area of major research interest and rapid clinical growth. Clinical Perfusion MRI: Techniques and Applications provides a concise and comprehensive review of the principles and applications of the field, covering dynamic susceptibility contrast, dynamic contrast enhancement, and arterial spin labeling imaging techniques. Principles of blood-volume and oxygenation imaging are included. The clinical applications of perfusion imaging in neurological disease and neuroscience are discussed – major topics including its use in imaging cerebrovascular disease and brain tumors and other neurological and neurodegenerative disorders. Non-neurologic applications are also covered with chapters on cardiac disease, breast cancer and other organ systems. Use of MR perfusion imaging in pediatrics is also discussed. Throughout the book case reports are included illustrating representative clinical examples. This book will be of interest to any clinician who uses MR perfusion imaging in their clinical practice, as well as researchers in the field of MRI.

High-Grade Gliomas

This is truly an exciting time in the field of neuro-oncology, particularly in the area of hi- grade gliomas. The management of patients with high-grade gliomas has historically been one of the most challenging and disheartening fields in medicine, where failure is the rule and longevity is the exception. The jaded often state that despite purported advances in surgical and radiotherapeutic techniques and a myriad of clinical trials of medical therapies, the s- vival statistics for glioblastoma have not changed in the last three decades. The nihilism associated with these tumors is such that some practitioners still advise against treatment or even biopsy, recommending palliative care with t...

Evidence-Based Imaging in Pediatrics

This practical book is ideal for readers who want to rapidly determine the appropriate imaging for pediatric patients. The text provides a concise and accessible summary of the literature on how and when to use imaging studies. Chapters address the essentials, such as cost-effectiveness, and are written in collaboration by renowned specialists in the fields of pediatrics and pediatric radiology. Topics cover common clinical scenarios in neuroimaging and musculoskeletal, chest, and abdominal imaging. Each imaging recommendation is presented along with the supporting data and the strength of the evidence.

Evidence-Based Imaging

Evidence-Based Imaging is a user-friendly guide to the evidence-based science and merit defining the appropriate use of medical imaging in both adult and pediatric patients. Chapters are divided into major areas of medical imaging and cover the most prevalent diseases in developed countries, including the four major causes of mortality and morbidity: injury, coronary artery disease, cancer, and cerebrovascular disease. This book gives the reader a clinically-relevant overview of evidence-based imaging, with topics including epidemiology, patient selection, imaging strategies, test performance, cost-effectiveness, radiation safety and applicability. Each chapter is framed around important and...

Pediatric CNS Tumors is a detailed review of childhood brain tumors that offers a biologically based perspective on their management. For each tumor type, epidemiology, pathological features, clinical presentation, diagnosis, and treatment are discussed. Particular emphasis is placed on the provision of treatment algorithms that reflect current best practice, and controversies and therapeutic agents under development are also addressed. The closing chapters consider many of the diagnostic and treatment modalities common to all tumors, with special attention to experimental and emerging techniques. This third edition of the book has been thoroughly revised and updated to take into account the latest advances in knowledge and treatment.

Optical Microendoscopy for Imaging Cells Lying Deep Within Live Tissue

Optical microendoscopy is an emerging modality for imaging in live subjects. Using gradient refractive index (GRIN) microlenses, microendoscopy enables subcellular-resolution imaging in deep tissues that are inaccessible by traditional imaging techniques. We present a platform of methods and technologies that build upon GRIN microendoscopy: 1) miniaturized microscopes for imaging in awake, behaving animals, 2) methods for imaging contractile dynamics in the muscles of animal and human subjects, 3) chronic brain preparations that allow for longitudinal examinations of subcellular neuronal features and disease progression, and 4) novel microendoscope probes whose imaging capabilities approach that of standard water-immersion microscope objectives. When combined with the broad sets of available fluorescent reporters, and minimally invasive surgical preparations, the work described in this dissertation enables sophisticated experimental designs for probing how cellular char- acteristics may underlie or explain behavior, in models of both healthy and diseased states.

The first part presents up-to-date protocols for CT, MRI, myelography, and neuroangiography and guidelines on drugs used in neuroimaging. The second part presents images of all common pathologic entities, along with succinct, bulleted "key facts" about radiologic diagnosis. This edition has new chapters on the brachial plexus, degenerative and iatrogenic brain disorders, and metabolic brain disorders. New entities have been added to many chapters, particularly those on brain trauma, stroke, infections and inflammations, and the orbits.
