These are two works of fiction that have a common statement, mainly that the human experience and the anomaly of life itself exists for a purpose, to discover God. The first story, The Red and the Green, takes a wild trip into the future where men and women are separated by a type of cosmic divorce. There are two gods that have created the human race and they are represented by the opposite colors: red and green. The author is summoned to this era through the touching of a fern and it is his duty to create a painting that will liberate one of the diseased gods. The second story, The Last Tear, touches an archetypical myth of the lost goddess, Sofia, whom was ousted from Christianity; for in the early Gnostic teachings there was Sofia and Jesus in the more allegorical rather than literalist teachings. In this story a young woman gets thrown into this goddess-like existence after a car accident. She wanders around spreading the word of peace and salvation to anyone who is receptive enough. The world reaches a boiling point and an earth-destroying comet hits annihilating everything but the souls of the pure.

Cell Migration in Three Dimensions

This detailed collection serves as a unique and excellent collection of state-of-the-art methods and protocols to interrogate cell migration in a wide variety of different contexts and model organisms, as well as advanced image analysis and quantitative assessment of a diverse array of parameters related to cell migration. The book focuses on the cell biology of cell migration, developmental model systems to assess cell migration during morphogenesis, cell migration in cancers and the tumor micro-environment, as well as blood vessel formation and interactions. Written for the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology series, chapters include introductions to their respective topics, lists of the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step and readily reproducible laboratory protocols, and tips on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls. Authoritative and practical, Cell Migration in Three Dimensions provides a solid foundation for scientists of different disciplines to investigate cell migration in biological processes. In an incubated petri dish in a Boston laboratory, a cluster of eight living cells holds the key to a daring new era of medical science. These cells come from a human embryo, containing genetic material from my wife, Paulina, and me, obtained through in vitro fertilization (IVF). Research using these cells holds enormous potential to cure a fatal disease, saving the lives of countless children and relieving their families of unspeakable pain. We lived that pain ourselves. When our son was born we didn't know what a tortuous road stretched ahead of us- how our baby would suffer, and how we'd suffer with him. We didn't know he'd spend nearly 1,000 days in seven different hospitals, see more th...

Don Andres and Paquita

(Amadeus). This heartbreaking tale uncovers a mystery in the life of one of the most important personalities of the twentieth century, guitarist Andres Segovia (1893-1987). He married the widowed Paquita Madriguera (1900-1965), famous child prodigy pianist and prized student of Enrique Granados, in 1935 as his international career was blossoming. They fled their native Spain under death threats when the Spanish Civil War erupted in 1936 and began an odyssey that landed them in the Uruguayan capital. Segovia's support for the fascist Franco resulted in his banishment from the lucrative American concert scene, while the travel dangers of World War II further isolated him from the rest of the w...
