When we selected "More Than A Message" as the title for our book we were looking for something catchy that may inspire people to take a closer look. We did not realize that our chosen title may very well reveal the book's true purpose. We believe this collection of our poems, all written as part of a class in our sophomore curriculum, is a worthy contribution to the literary landscape. But it is more than that. There is a wisdom dwelling in the heart and soul of every young person, a wisdom our world needs in troubled times. We do not claim to have all the answers, but young people everywhere are asking the right questions. We invite you to read the poems a couple of times. Some of them belong with your finest collections, others may not be ready yet for prime time. But all of them are expressed from within the imagination of young people who have something very important to say. Perhaps you can find your own questions in the midst of these poems. Your reading, just as our writing, will contribute meaning to the world. And please remember, all proceeds from the sales of "MoreThan A Message" support the important work of our St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Little is known of Dutch author MARINUS WILLEM DE VISSER (1876-1930) beyond his academic life as a classicist with an interest in Chinese and Japanese language and culture, and as a popularizer of Japanese art in the Netherlands. He is best remembered today for having given us a cornerstone examination of the legends of fantastic flying reptiles known as dragons. The Dragon in China and Japan contains "the most interesting quotations concerning the dragon in China, systematically arranged, selected from the enormous number of passages on this fantastic animal in Chinese literature, from the remotest eras down to modern times," notes cryptozoologist Loren Coleman in his new introduction. Cole...

Gangs and Organized Crime

In Gangs and Organized Crime, George W. Knox, Gregg W. Etter, and Carter F. Smith offer an informed and carefully investigated examination of gangs and organized crime groups, covering street gangs, prison gangs, outlaw motorcycle gangs, and organized crime groups from every continent. The authors have spent decades investigating gangs as well as researching their history and activities, and this dual professional-academic perspective informs their analysis of gangs and crime groups. They take a multidisciplinary approach that combines criminal justice, public policy and administration, law, organizational behavior, sociology, psychology, and urban planning perspectives to provide insight in...
