Pagan Mysticism

Pagan Mysticism

As a non-dogmatic religion, paganism is a spiritualty that is variously interpreted in terms of nature worship, this-worldliness, the valuing of the physical, and multiple understandings of the sacred. Like most religions, pagan spirituality also entertains the experience of mystical ecstasy as an intense state of psycho-spiritual consciousness that radically diverges from ordinary waking awareness. This volume addresses two fundamental questions, namely: “how do the world’s religions understand the mystical and its pursuit?”, and “how and why does paganism offer something different?” Proverbially, the mystical quest is an ultimate human endeavour. The re-emergence of pagan thought in contemporary times challenges the obsolete and unlocks both innovation and available forms of transpersonal emancipation.

Technology and Cultural Values

Recent history makes clear that the quantum leaps being made in technology are the leading edge of a groundswell of paradigm shifts taking place in science, politics, economics, social institutions, and the expression of cultural values. Indeed it is the simultaneity and interdependence of these changes occurring in every dimension of human experience and endeavor that makes the present so historically distinctive. The essays gathered here give voice to perspectives on the always improvised relationship between technology and cultural values from Africa, the Americas, Asia, Australia, Europe, and the Pacific. The Secrets of SRIVIDYA

The entire universe is governed by an invisible energy known as Brahman, which is omnipresent and permeates all 8.4 million forms of living organisms in a formless state. To fulfill the wishes of devotees, Brahman can manifest as the form of Maha Tripura Sundari. She grants liberation, and the practices associated with her—mantra, yantra, tantra, puja, archana, and upasana—are collectively known as Srividya. Srividya, being the knowledge of liberation, is considered a Mahavidya. Those who master this knowledge are referred to as Srividya Upasakas. Individuals seeking worldly desires are not destined for moksha (liberation). To attain moksha, one must renounce worldly pleasures. However, ...

The Secret of Sri Vidya

The Secret of Sri Vidya

There are many books written in abstract language on the Tantra Upasana known as Sri Vidya. However, they contain highly technical words, mantras and rituals which are beyond the understanding of a layman who is alien to the concept of Hindu religion. Hence, more than enlightening the reader, they confuse him. In this aspect, this book is different in its diction. It tries to explain the abstruse subject of Sri Vidya in simplest possible terms, highlighting its most benign form of practices. Explaining the meanings of important mantras from the Upanishads, the connection between Sri Vidya and the Vedas has been established in this book. In addition, the four paths of Sri Vidya have been briefly touched upon, introducing the readers to the practical aspects of these four esoteric paths. Dispelling the fear of Tantra and the worship of God in his feminine aspect, the entire subject of Sri Vidya has been explained in this book. If the reader develops interest in the sadhana of Sri Vidya after reading this work, we feel our efforts in writing this book are fulfilled.

Toward a Global Science

Asian science such as mathematics, Chinese printing, gunpowder and the compass, all contributed to the development of European science. During the last few centuries, however, scientific contributions with Asian roots have diminished and been marginalized and deligitimised. Yet the center of the world economy today is shifting to Asia with shifts in science and technology bound to follow. Toward a Global Science is driven by the proposition that pre-Renaissance acquisition of Asian knowledge did not exhaust Asian civilizationÕs potential contribution. There are many useful elements to modern science still lying hidden in Asian civilizational stores waiting to be Òmined.Ó The author gives ...
