This volume contains the papers selected for presentation at CEEMAS 2001. The wo- shop was the fourth in a series of international conferences devoted to autonomous agents and multi-agent systems organized in Central-Eastern Europe. Its predecessors wereCEEMAS’99andDAIMAS’97,whichtookplaceinSt. Petersburg,Russia, aswell as DIMAS’95, which took place in Cracow, Poland. Organizers of all these events made efforts to make them wide-open to participants from all over the world. This would have been impossible without some help from friendly centers in the Czech Republic, England, France, Japan, and The Netherlands. DIMAS’95 featured papers from 15 countries, while CEEMAS’99 from 18 co- ...

Lead Chemistry

Lead continues to amaze us in a variety of ways. The more we learn, the more we are amazed, or more like it, obsessed! Even though we might think that we know the element quite well, the fact is that more research must be conducted to support its subtle behaviors and effects. The most obvious aspect is the effects of lead on health. Because lead is still in use today, we have to understand the effects of lead on our metabolisms. In addition, more and more compounds of lead have been continuously synthesized and their properties and behaviors are required with the help from a variety of scientific disciplines. To provide information for newcomers, especially students or even the public, the overview of lead effects has been included in this book. Despite the variety of lead aspects the book might seem to contain, at least some topics should suit readers? interests. The rest, meaning the contents for new books, depends on how fast you can take the benefits out of this book!

Dynamic Data Driven Applications Systems

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Third International Conference on Dynamic Data Driven Application Systems, DDDAS 2020, held in Boston, MA, USA, in October 2020. The 21 full papers and 14 short papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 40 submissions. They cover topics such as: digital twins; environment cognizant adaptive-planning systems; energy systems; materials systems; physics-based systems analysis; imaging methods and systems; and learning systems.

Ashkenazim and Sephardim: A European Perspective

The volume is about culture and language of the two largest Jewish Diaspora groups, Sephardim and Ashkenazim. Analyzing the latest European research tendencies, questions concern the historical, social and cultural contact with non-Jewish environment, problems of Jewish identity, the condition of languages in both groups and Jewish anthroponymy.

Global and Regional Economic Inequality

Global economic inequality has attracted the attention of researchers and policy makers for several years. Globalization has raised questions about its impact on global inequality and poverty. However, the recent answers to such questions are ambiguous. According to some researchers, global inequality increases. Other economists hold that inequality decreases. One can also find the opinion that global inequality dose not exhibit any visible increasing or decreasing trend. One may ask the question what the reason of such variety of opinions about global inequality is. The lack of countries’ statistical income data, comparable across countries and years, seems to be the main reason of contro...

Hyperspectral Data Compression

Hyperspectral Data Compression provides a survey of recent results in the field of compression of remote sensed 3D data, with a particular interest in hyperspectral imagery. Chapter 1 addresses compression architecture, and reviews and compares compression methods. Chapters 2 through 4 focus on lossless compression (where the decompressed image must be bit for bit identical to the original). Chapter 5, contributed by the editors, describes a lossless algorithm based on vector quantization with extensions to near lossless and possibly lossy compression for efficient browning and pure pixel classification. Chapter 6 deals with near lossless compression while. Chapter 7 considers lossy techniques constrained by almost perfect classification. Chapters 8 through 12 address lossy compression of hyperspectral imagery, where there is a tradeoff between compression achieved and the quality of the decompressed image. Chapter 13 examines artifacts that can arise from lossy compression.
