Excerpt from State Boards of Education By an amendment to the Constitution of the State of California. adopted by the people at the last election, the legislature is to provide for the appointment or election of a State Board of Education, which board is to "provide, compile or cause to be compiled, and adopt a uniform series of text-books for use in the day and evening elementary schools throughout the state," and to perform such other duties as may be prescribed by law.
