SDL '95 with MSC in CASE
Message Sequence Charts (MSC) have had an unanticipated success, both with SDL, on its own and in conjunction with other methods and tools. Major tool vendors now offer both SDL and MSC in their tool set. This timely volume reports on the recent developments in this expanding field. Several papers deal with language issues, tools and methods for effective use of MSC. Advances in "SDL technology" are discussed, and several papers deal with the early stages of product development and how SDL may be complemented by other methods, such as OMT, to improve problem understanding and make better SDL designs. The Processing of Events
Synthesizing ideas from event semantics and psycholinguistics, this monograph provides a new perspective on the processing of linguistic aspect and aspectual coercion. Confronting alternative semantic accounts with experimental evidence, the author develops a comprehensive model of online aspectual interpretation. The first part of the book critically reviews competing theoretical accounts of aspectual coercion. As an analytical tool the author introduces a computational model based on the event calculus by Hamm & van Lambalgen (2005) which makes use of planning formalisms from artificial intelligence. Detailed predictions from this framework are then tested in the experimental work reported in the second part. The focus here is on such questions as: Is aspectual coercion a uniform phenomenon or must we distinguish different types? Is aspect processed incrementally or is it computed only at the clause boundary? And finally, what insights can event related potentials yield about how the brain resolves local aspectual mismatch?

Jewish Cattle Traders in the German Countryside, 1919-1939, examines the complexities of relations between Jews and non-Jews who were engaged in economic and social exchange. In the process, Fischer challenges previous understandings of everyday life under Nazi rule and discovers new ways in which Jewish agency acted as a critical force throughout the exclusionary processes that took place in Hitler's Germany.
