From the sorrow of heartbreak and broken relationships to mysterious disappearances and alien visitations; from the strangeness of the open badlands to the magic of lands that never were; from ethereal beauty to gothic horror - let Steve Carr take you on journeys into little worlds which seem like keyhole glimpses of much larger universes in this, his third collection of short stories. With the ability to paint entire scenes in just a few words and to develop a grip on your soul within the first few sentences, this collection guarantees both thrills and chills - and perhaps a little insight into the human heart too.

Stevie the Rifleman Flemmi was, for forty years, one of the most feared gangsters in Boston, and for much of that time, he was the partner of Whitey Bulger, the sixteen-year fugitive with a $2 million reward on his head who was captured in 2011. Flemmi has been convicted of ten murders and took the Fifth Amendment when asked about ten others. His cohort, Bulger, is charged with nineteen more. Rifleman is the story of Flemmi's life of crime, as told to federal and state law enforcement after he pleaded guilty in 2003. The original document on which the book is based is called a DEA 6, and it ran 146 single-spaced pages, covering dozens of extortions, assaults, and murders, including two of his girlfriends, one of whom was also his common law stepdaughter. Supplementing the text are close to 300 photographs from Carr's own collection. This is truly a must-have for any true crime fan."

Poetry and Terror

A study at many levels of Scott’s long poem Coming to Jakarta, a book-length response to a midlife crisis triggered in part by the author’s initial inability to share his knowledge and horror about American involvement in the great Indonesian massacre of 1965. Interviews with Ng supply fuller information about the poem’s discussions of: a) how this psychological trauma led to an explorations of violence in American society and then, after a key recognition, in the poet himself; b) the poem's look at east-west relations through the lens of the yin-yang, spiritual-secular doubleness of the human condition; c) how the process of writing the poem led to the recovery of memories too threate...

Soldier, sailor, journalist, student, counselor, actor, playwright, director, theatrical producer, traveler, photographer, animal lover, writer of short stories - these are just a few of the titles Steve Carr has had attached to him over the years. The last title, writer of short stories, is his newest, and began in June of 2016 when he submitted his first short story - after years of writing nothing at all - to a publication where it was immediately accepted. Less than two years later he has had over 130 short stories in a half dozen different genres published in print magazines, e-zines, anthologies and literary journals. He has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and won several short story competitions. A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, he now lives in Richmond, Virginia where he writes full time.
