In celebration of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary’s fiftieth anniversary, its former Academic Dean and longtime historian, Garth M. Rosell, was commissioned to write a history of the school. The merger of two much older institutions, the Conwell School of Theology founded in 1884 in Philadelphia and Gordon Divinity School founded in 1889 in Boston, created an institution that since its own founding in 1969 has become one of the largest theological seminaries in the world. With more than ten thousand graduates and nearly two thousand students studying on four campuses from Hamilton and Boston in the north to Charlotte and Jacksonville in the south, the seminary has become an important center for theological education in the evangelical tradition. A Charge to Keep explores the seminary's history from its founding by Billy Graham, Harold John Ockenga, and J. Howard Pew to the installation of its seventh president, Scott Sunquist.
Essays on Semitics, Statistics and Linguistics, the Hebrew Bible, the Greek Bible, and Religion by an international group of scholars reflect the wide-ranging interests of Professor Andersen's research and writing. In addition, a number of poems by friends of Professor Andersen are included, in appreciation of his long-standing interest and involvement in poetics. The contributions reflect the deep impact of his leadership in linguistics and study of the Hebrew Bible.

This 2005 book proposes a model for understanding religious debates in the Churches of England and Scotland between 1603 and 1625. Setting aside 'narrow' analyses of conflict over predestination, its theme is ecclesiology - the nature of the Church, its rites and governance, and its relationship to the early Stuart political world. Drawing on a substantial number of polemical works, from sermons to books of several hundred pages, it argues that rival interpretations of scripture, pagan, and civil history and the sources central to the Christian historical tradition lay at the heart of disputes between proponents of contrasting ecclesiological visions. Some saw the Church as a blend of spiritual and political elements - a state Church - while others insisted that the life of the spirit should be free from civil authority.

Blackfriars: Theater, Church, and Neighborhood in Early Modern London is a cultural history of an urban enclave best known in the later sixteenth and seventeenth centuries for the incongruous juxtaposition of playing and godly preaching. As the former site of one of London's great religious houses, the post-Reformation Blackfriars was a Liberty free from mayoral control. The legal exemptions and privileges enjoyed by its residents helped attract an unusual mix of groups and activities.
