Têm sido adotados Regulamentos da União Europeia sobre os conflitos de leis relativos a matérias específicas, tais como obrigações contratuais e extracontratuais, divórcio, sucessões e efeitos patrimoniais dos casamentos e das parcerias registadas. Nestes Regulamentos estão consagradas normas que versam sobre a concreta matéria jurídica aí tratada e outras sobre questões gerais relevantes para a sua aplicação, como por exemplo as relativas ao reenvio ou à ordem pública internacional. Outras matérias, como a qualificação ou o estatuto do Direito estrangeiro, não encontram regulação expressa nesses instrumentos, embora sejam determinantes para a sua aplicação.
