Slow Tourism
Bringing together scholars from the areas of tourism, leisure and cultural studies, eco-humanities and tourism management, this book examines the emerging phenomenon of slow tourism. The book explores the range of travel experiences that are part of growing consumer concerns with quality leisure time, environmental and cultural sustainability, as well as the embodied experience of place. Slow tourism encapsulates a range of lifestyle practices, mobilities and ethics that are connected to social movements such as slow food and cities, as well as specialist sectors such as ecotourism and voluntourism. The slow experience of temporality can evoke and incite different ways of being and moving, as well as different logics of desire that value travel experiences as forms of knowledge. Slow travel practices reflect a range of ethical-political positions that have yet to be critically explored in the academic literature despite the growth of industry discourse.

This book deals with music from the later sixteenth century, the period on which Ignace Bossuyt, a professor at the Musicology Department of the University of Leuven who retured in 2007 and an internationally recognized leader in the field of later-sixteenth-century music, focused his research. Subjects discussed include newly discovered music by Philippe de Monte and Heinrich Isaac, humor in the motets of Orlando di Lasso, the beginnings of music history, compositional procedures in Renaissance music, and Tinctoris's art of listening. This book offers a wide range of methods including historiography, reception studies, source studies, music analysis, music theory, style studies, and aesthetics of music.
Patronage in Sixteenth- and Seventeenth-Century France
The dual themes of this volume are the characteristics of patronage relationships and their political uses in early modern France. The first essays provide an overview of the scholarly literature and suggest that the obligatory reciprocity of the patron-client exchange was a defining characteristic. The third and fourth essays compare patronage relationships with kinship and friendship, while the following two focus on the patronage role of noblewomen. Professor Kettering then looks at the role of brokerage in state formation in early modern France, comparing this with other early modern societies. In the final section she explores the role of patronage in the religious wars of the late 16th century and in the civil war of the Fronde a half century later, and the ways in which it was affected by the changing lifestyles of the great nobles during the late 17th century.
