Rekayasa perangkat lunak memberikan gambaran yang komprehensif mengenai suatu disiplin ilmu dengan melibatkan desain, pengembangan, dan pemeliharaan perangkat lunak. Terdapat berbagai macam jenis dan model untuk proses pengembangan perangkat lunak, dan setiap model dari proses pengembangan memiliki kelebihan dan kekurangannya masing-masing. Pengujian perangkat lunak bertujuan untuk menguji kemampuan sistem yang dikembangkan agar memiliki kualitas yang baik. Dikarenakan pengembangan rekayasa perangkat lunak yang terus berkembang, maka penting untuk diingat bahwa peranan manusia tetap dibutuhkan. Dengan merangkul teknologi dan pendekatan baru serta mempertahankan fokus pada kecerdasan manusia, diharapkan masa depan pengembangan perangkat lunak akan semakin cerah.
