Legume Root Diseases

Legume crop development is a major challenge worldwide for sustainable agriculture and food security. In particular, legume root diseases are economically important, affecting large areas of crop production in many countries worldwide. Root rots, caused by Aphanomyces euteiches, Rhizoctonia solani, Fusarium species, and wilts, caused by several formae speciales of Fusarium oxysporum, are some of the most destructive soil-borne diseases of cultivated legumes including pea, chickpea, lentil, soybean, bean, faba bean, lupin, and alfalfa.

This book is an up-to-date reference on phosphorus nutrition in plants. Phosphorus has no substitute in food production, and the use of phosphate (Pi) fertilisers has increased crop yields to feed billions of people. This book covers phosphorus metabolism and phosphorus sensing molecular mechanisms and signalling in plants. It covers functions of phosphorus and crosstalk with other nutrients. It discusses how plants sense Pi deficiency and coordinate the responses via signalling pathways and networks for the regulation of Pi-deficiency responses. FEATURES Discusses the latest developments in phosphate management in plants Provides insights on emerging topics for sustainable approaches to managing phosphate shortage Throws light on the resilience of plants to phosphate deficiency Provides extensive updates that serve as primary points for further research Explains molecular and physiological mechanisms of phosphate transport This book compiles the latest research from experts in the field. It is useful for advanced graduates and researchers in plant sciences and agriculture.

Interplay between NO Signalling, ROS and the Antioxidant System in Plants

Over the last decades, nitric oxide (NO) has emerged as an essential player in redox signalling. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) also act as signals throughout all stages of plant life. Because they are potentially harmful for cellular integrity, ROS and NO levels must be tightly controlled, especially by the classical antioxidant system and additional redox-active metabolites and proteins. Recent work provided evidence that NO and ROS influence each other’s biosynthesis and removal. Moreover, novel signalling molecules resulting from the chemical reaction between NO, ROS and plant metabolites have been highlighted, including N2O3, ONOO-, NO2, S-nitrosoglutathione and 8-NO2 cGMP. They are involved in diverse plant physiological processes, the best characterized being stomata regulation and stress defense. Taken together, these new data demonstrate the complex interactions between NO, ROS signalling and the antioxidant system. This Frontiers in Plant Science Research Topic aims to provide an updated and complete overview of this important and rapidly expanding area through original article and detailed reviews.

Plant Innate Immunity

Plant innate immunity is a collective term to describe a complex of interconnected mechanisms that plants use to withstand potential pathogens and herbivores. The last decade has seen a rapid advance in our understanding of the induction, signal transduction and expression of resistance responses to oomycetes, fungi, bacteria, viruses, nematodes and insects. This volume aims at providing an overview of these processes and mechanisms.Edited by Jean-Claude Kader and Michel Delseny and supported by an international Editorial Board, Advances in Botanical Research publishes in-depth and up-to-date reviews on a wide range of topics in plant sciences. - Multidisciplinary reviews written from a broad range of scientific perspectives - For over 40 years, series has enjoyed a reputation for excellence - Contributors internationally recognized authorities in their respective fields
