This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the First International Conference on Formal Methods in Computer-Aided Design, FMCAD '96, held in Palo Alto, California, USA, in November 1996. Concurrency is an integral part of everyday life. The concept is so ingrained in our existence that we benefit from it without realizing. When faced with a taxing problem, we automatically involve others to solve it more easily. Such concurrent solutions to a complex problem may, however, not be quite straightforward and communication becomes crucial to ensure the successful solution of the problem.
