When Pliv, who claimed to be a "Bulgarian," appeared in that travel agency office in 1993, no one could have predicted that Sydney would fall in love with him, or, more incredibly, he with her. From the start, Pliv was, let's say, different. For openers, he dressed like a doofus, didn't feel pain, and never seemed to eat. Also, he spoke perfect English but read at the first grade level. All Pliv wanted was someone to escort him to five U.S. cities in five days. The bizarre events that followed changed everyone. Forever. It seems safe to theorize that after reading The Transmogrification of Sydney Pellegrini, readers will begin to regard their microwave display panel as neither clock nor timer.

Observing Children in Their Natural Worlds

This second edition updates the methods based on new technologies, updates and increases the number of examples, and reorganizes so the theoretical material is up front. The author's decisions were guided by having used the first edition in classes at two universities. Consequently, he received feedback on the book from a variety of different perspectives--from groups of very conscientious and competent students and from colleagues around the world who have used the book. By consensus, the most popular aspect of the first edition was the organization of the book, where the student/researcher is guided through conceptualizing, designing, implementing, and writing up the research project. Ionizing Radiation Detectors for Medical Imaging

Ionizing Radiation Detectors for Medical Imaging contains tentechnical chapters, half of which are devoted to radiology and theother half to nuclear medicine. The last chapter describes thedetectors for radiotherapy and portal imaging. Each chapter addressescompletely a specific application. The emphasis is always on detectorfundamentals and detector properties. Where necessary, software andspecific applications are described in depth. This book is intended for graduate and undergraduate students inphysics and engineering who want to study medical imaging. Inaddition, scientists who are working in a specific sub-field ofmedical imaging can acquire from the book an up-to-date description ofthe state of the art in related sub-fields, within the scope ofionizing radiation detectors. Other scientists, as well as physicians, can use the book as a reference for medical imaging
