Re-centering Cultural Performance and Orange Economy in Post-colonial Africa
This book explores the role of national theatres, national cultural centres, cultural policy, festivals, and the film industry as creative and cultural performances hubs for exercising soft power and cultural diplomacy. It shows how can existing cultural and non-cultural infrastructures, sometimes referred to as the Orange Economy, open opportunities for diplomacy and soft power; ways by which cultural performance and creative practice can be re-centered in post-colonial Africa and in post-global pandemic era; and existing structures that cultural performers, diplomats, administrators, cultural entrepreneurs, and managers can leverage to re-enact cultural performance and creative practice on the continent. This volume is positioned within postcolonial discourse to amplify narratives, experiences and realities that are anti-oppressive especially within critical discourse.

Applied Theatre and the Sustainable Development Goals
This book is the first definitive publication to consider the intersections of applied theatre and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – a series of goals which have shaped development and social justice initiatives from 2015 to 2030. It brings together emerging and leading scholars and practitioners engaged in creative and community contexts globally. In so doing, the book offers critical insights to explore the convergences, complexities, and tensions of working within development frameworks, through theatre. Divided into three thematic areas, it maps out the ways in which applied theatre has related to the SDGs, examines issues with global collaborations, and, as 2030 approaches and the SDG era draws to a close, interrogates such practices, envisioning what the role of applied theatre might be in the post-SDG era. The book provokes reflection about this specific era of applied theatre and global development, as well as discussion regarding what comes next. Arrested Development
Arrested Development takes a hard look at the state of Nigeria's shipping sector and concludes that the sector has failed to live up to expectation. Inconsistent government policies, mediocrity, poor planning, and a general lack of understanding of the role of shipping in national development have all contributed to the sorry state of the shipping sector. The author traced the history of Nigeria's shipping sector from the precolonial era to the present time and concludes that a lot more needs to be done if meaningful development of the sector is to be attained.
New Insights in the Health Benefits of Art
In 2019, the World Health Organization demonstrated with a scoping review that art-based activities, regardless of their characteristics, have promising health benefits. More specifically, practicing art-based activities was demonstrated to contribute to core determinants of health, to play a key role in health promotion and prevention—especially with regard to the onset of mental illness and age-related physical decline—and to assist in acute and end-of-life care. This report also underscored, first, a lack of robust data on art’s health benefits, meaning data obtained with gold-standard experimental study designs (i.e., randomized control trials) and second, that certain topics (e.g., social health) and populations (e.g., older community dwellers) have been underexamined. In addition, little is known about both the mechanisms of art’s health benefits and how to implement an art-based activity for health purposes in practice.
