Organizadores: Ligia Gomes Elliot e Ovidio Orlando Filho. Editora: Pimenta Cultural (2019) ISBN: 978-85-7221-086-7 (eBook) 978-85-7221-085-0 (brochura) DOI: 10.31560/pimentacultural/2020.867
An inaugural volume in the International Library of Policy Analysis series, this book brings together eighteen leading Brazilian social scientists who paint the first comprehensive portrait of policy analysis in Brazil. Their contributions trace policy analysis from the 1930s, when it emerged as a tool of Brazilian state building, through the 1980s, when increasing democratization began to allow for citizen participation in public management. Ultimately, policy analysis emerges as a multifaceted activity pursued in an array of contexts, and through a variety of methods, by both governmental and non-governmental actors.
The renin-angiotensin system (RAS) is a hormonal system that is responsible for regulating plasma sodium ion concentration and arterial blood pressure in the body. The system involves several peptides such as angiotensin I and II as well as angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) to enable the constriction of arterial blood vessels in the lung. Angiotensin II also stimulates the production of the hormone aldosterone in the kidneys which brings sodium ions into the bloodstream in exchange for potassium ions. Malfunctions of the RAS can lead to hypertension, heart failure, diabetes and renal complications. Thus the biochemical components of this system serve as important targets for therapeutic dr...

Recent Trends in Biofilm Science and Technology helps researchers working on fundamental aspects of biofilm formation and control conduct biofilm studies and interpret results. The book provides a remarkable amount of knowledge on the processes that regulate biofilm formation, the methods used, monitoring characterization and mathematical modeling, the problems/advantages caused by their presence in the food industry, environment and medical fields, and the current and emergent strategies for their control. Research on biofilms has progressed rapidly in the last decade due to the fact that biofilms have required the development of new analytical tools and new collaborations between biologists, engineers and mathematicians. - Presents an overview of the process of biofilm formation and its implications - Provides a clearer understanding of the role of biofilms in infections - Creates a foundation for further research on novel control strategies - Updates readers on the remarkable amount of knowledge on the processes that regulate biofilm formation
The proposed book titled as “Bioprospection of Coproducts and Agro-industrial Wastes: A Sustainable Biotechnological Approach”, seeks to offer the importance of the recycling, reuse of food residue, byproducts of fruits and agri-wastes to the academic community and industries. In developing countries facing malnutrition and environmental problems, this book would be very useful. The food waste and the residues resulting from this process are now becoming environmental problems. These mainly include leaves, stems, seeds, bark, and roots that have high nutritional value, many times even greater than the part usually consumed. It is a pressing priority to reuse and recycle the waste which is detrimental to the environment. This book would be an essential reading for students, researchers, and people from the food and pharma industry.
