Pediatric Epilepsy Surgery Techniques: Controversies and Evidence provides a roadmap for clinicians in addressing difficult decision-making by succinctly summarizing the evidence for surgical treatments in pediatric drug-resistant epilepsy. With the field of pediatric epilepsy surgery having expanded significantly over the last 10 years, combined with high variability in practice and several emerging technologies with expanding evidence, this volume addresses several dichotomies in decision-making, both in terms of surgical modalities as well as surgical techniques. Chapters compare DBS, VNS/RNS, resection and other modalities, as well as surgical methods, including vertical vs. lateral hemi...

Understanding the Prefrontal Cortex

Understanding the Prefrontal Cortex

"This chapter explains why this book is organized as it is. Each neocortical area has a unique pattern of inputs and outputs. This means that the challenge is to understand the transformation that each of the prefrontal areas performs from input to output. Functional brain imaging allows us to visualize the human brain at work, but it does not have the spatial resolution to identify the mechanisms that support the transformations that the brain performs. It is neurophysiological recordings from cells that tell us how these are achieved. Chapters 3-8 are therefore mainly devoted to studies that have been carried out on the prefrontal cortex of macaque monkeys because the methods are necessarily invasive. Apart from recording, the methods include making selective lesions in an area; it is these that identify the contribution that is unique to that area. The book ends by reviewing the evolution of the human prefrontal cortex; and the final two chapters discuss the ways in which the human prefrontal cortex is specialized in terms of function. In doing so, they attempt to account for the intellectual gap between humans and other primates"-- Provided by publisher.

Some forty years later, Rohillio Jabel recognizes that it is only through Gods grace and mercy that he has been successful in life. Buoyed by his ideals, innovative ideas, and commitment to helping those less fortunate than himself, Rohillio begins to rise in his south New Jersey community. Rohillio, now known as the Citizen, is disenchanted about the biases that plague the American justice system and tired of belonging to a powerless race. Determined to change the black experience for the better, Rohillio recruits eight ...

Decision Support Systems for Sustainable Development

In recent years, much work has been done in formulating and clarifying the concept of sustainable development and related theoretical and research issues. Now, the challenge has shifted to designing and stimulating processes of effective planning and decision-making, at all levels of human activity, in such a way as to achieve local and global sustainable development. Information technology can help a great deal in achieving sustainable development by providing well-designed and useful tools for decision makers. One such tool is the decision support system, or DSS. This book explores the area of DSS in the context of sustainable development. As DSS is a very new technique, especially in the ...

The Record of Connecticut Men in the Military and Naval Service During the War of the Revolution, 1775-1783

This is the standard work on the subject, and it is literally crammed with genealogies of the 17th-century pioneers of the county, most of whom were of Dutch, or, to a lesser extent, British, origin.
