Antonyms for Daughter

Antonyms for Daughter, Jenny Boychuk's poetry debut, addresses a harrowing subject: the loss of the poet's mother to addiction. Deploying a range of forms and techniques astonishing in a first collection, Boychuk creates unsparing scenes of their complicated life together. Poem after poem attempts to wring clarity from memories ripe with trauma and love, as Boychuk questions whether it is possible for a child to ever extricate herself from an abusive parent--to become, as it were, a living "antonym" of a painful family legacy. A booklength loss-lyric of vivid beauty, Antonyms for Daughter is a singular example of grief transformed into art.

The One Legged:

The Bad Seed meets We Need to Talk about Kevin in this gripping psychological thriller set in rural India with a shocking horror twist. Praise for Sakyajit Bhattacharya The novella doesn’t just problematize the lore of Ekanore that seeks to hide the true nature of reality from children. It also calls into question another, even stronger, (mis)conception: children are the emblem of innocence. Though this myth is more than just wishful thinking, it blinds us to the complexity of children, leaving us unprepared for the rude shocks they can give us. - Scroll.in Longlisted for the JCB Prize for Literature 2024, The One Legged has a fascinating aftertaste that lingers long in memory. The Coherence of the Collections in the Book of Proverbs

The book of Proverbs is a large collection made up of diverse wisdom sayings emanating from different wisdom circles in different times. The author investigates the vocabulary of the book in order to interpret the distinctive wisdom characteristics of the seven collections of Proverbs. He argues that exclusive words of a collection will best reveal the peculiar nature of the collection, and that the collections which exclusively share common wisdom words are inevitably coherent in terms of wisdom traditions. This book provides a new understanding of Proverbs, especially with regard to the relationship between collections I (chs. 1-9) and VII (ch. 31), collections II (10:1-22:16) and V (chs. 25-29), and collections VI (ch. 30) and VII (ch. 31). In addition to the investigation of more than three hundred words, this volume contains the lists of exclusive words of the seven collections and thirty-four tables of words related to wisdom. Kim's work will prove a useful resource to those who want to study Proverbs.
