Data and Information in Online Environments
This book constitutes the refereed post-conference proceedings of the First International Conference on Data and Information in Online Environments, DIONE 2020, which took place in Florianópolis, Brazil, in March 2020. DIONE 2020 handles the growing interaction between the information sciences, communication sciences and computer sciences. The 18 revised full papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 37 submissions and focus on the production, dissemination and evaluation of contents in online environments. The goal is to improve cooperation between data science, natural language processing, data engineering, big data, research evaluation, network science, sociology of science and communication communities.
O jazz do cidadão de arco-e-flecha
Em um conto escrito sobre a derrubada do Grande Hotel, Vicente Salles lembrou do sentimento dançante presente na memória dos que viveram um baile de outrora. Foi o que chamou do jazz do cidadão de arco-e-flecha, conceituando o repertório executado por músicos atuantes do cenário de divertimento noturno paraense. Este estudo focaliza o entendimento das formas do jazz na capital paraense durante 1922-1932, conforme noticiado na grande imprensa. Para isso, procuramos entender o jazz enquanto fenômeno cultural urbano, caracterizando a multiplicidade que este fenômeno acaba ganhando na temporalidade analisada e, assim, compreendendo a história do jazz para além das fronteiras dos Estados Unidos. Nacionalmente, rompemos o tradicionalismo onde a construção da história do jazz no Brasil parte dos grandes centros urbanos, entendendo as diversas trajetórias, respeitando sua pluralidade, críticas e seus diálogos com as mais distintas vanguardas.

Address in Portuguese and Spanish
The volume provides the first systematic comparative approach to the history of forms of address in Portuguese and Spanish, in their European and American varieties. Both languages share a common history—e.g., the personal union of Philipp II of Spain and Philipp I of Portugal; the parallel colonization of the Americas by Portugal and Spain; the long-term transformation from a feudal to a democratic system—in which crucial moments in the diachrony of address took place. To give one example, empirical data show that the puzzling late spread of Sp. usted ‘you (formal, polite)’ and Pt. você ‘you’ across America can be explained for both languages by the role of the political and military colonial administration. To explore these new insights, the volume relies on an innovative methodology, as it links traditional downstream diachrony with upstream diachronic reconstruction based on synchronic variation. Including theoretical reflections as well as fine-grained empirical studies, it brings together the most relevant authors in the field.
