Archie Carr, one of the greatest biologists of the twentieth century, played a leading part in finding a new and critical role for natural history and systematics in a post-1950s world dominated by the glamorous science of molecular biology. With the rise of molecular biology came a growing popular awareness of species extinction. Carr championed endangered sea turtles, and his work reflects major shifts in the study of ecology and evolution. Contributions to the Systematics of New World Macro-moths III
This special issue of ZooKeys is the third volume in a series on the systematics of New World macro- moths. Fourteen authors have contributed 13 manuscripts for thisÿ volume, covering taxa in the Noctuidae, Erebidae, Notodontidae, Geometridae and Crambidae. New taxa are described from Argentina, Bolivia, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Peru and United States. Taxonomic changes include the description of two new genera, seven new species, and a new subspecies. Also, 45 new or revised synonyms, six new or revised statuses, and 20 new or revised generic combinations are proposed.

Contributions to the Systematics of New World Macro-Moths
This volume contains ten papers on the systematics of New World noctuid moths, marking the first issue in a planned series on New World macro-moth systematics. Twelve new species of Noctuidae are described from North America (north of Mexico), while one genus and six species are newly described from Mexico/Central America. Diagnoses and colour illustrations of all new taxa are provided, including dichotomous keys for most genera and species-groups treated herein.
The Law and Ecology of Pesticides and Pest Management
Although concerns over the ecological impacts of pesticides gave rise to the environmental movement of the late 1960s and 1970s, since that time, pesticide use and its effects have been largely ignored by the law and by legal scholars. This book addresses this omission by providing a unique and serious treatment of the significance of pesticide issues in environmental law and takes an ecological perspective on the legal issues. Dealing with a wide range of questions relating to pests and pesticides, the book focuses primarily on agricultural pesticide use as the largest contaminator in the US. It also examines the legacy of past pesticide use and analyzes how recent developments in ecological science can inform the law and increase our understanding of ecology.
