In this book published in 1893, the Rev. Dr. Thomas Chalmers, pastor of the Church of Christ in Brooklyn, New York, eloquently defends the Christian Endeavor movement. In this exhortative presentation he proposes a lofty place for the Society of Christian Endeavor and its exalted intention of developing within the Protestant Church a lay ministry for young people. Christian work at home and on the foreign mission field will help young people put into practice the ideals of Christian teaching and at the same time advance the progress of Christianizing the unchurched world, according to Chalmers.
