Library Infrastructures & Citizen Science

Welcome to Library Infrastructures and Citizen Science the second section of the guide series Citizen Science for Research Libraries. The aim of the publication is to inspire researcher and the library community to take a creative approach and take a second look at the infrastructures around them and how they can be applied to citizen science projects. Open science has already expanded the array of tools and practices used by research infrastructure. The challenge is how to take these one step further for citizen science, for example - expanding roles for acknowledgement, in collecting data, or providing pathways for the use of open access by the public. The section editor of Research Infras...

Irregularities in Modern English

This book is innovative, when compared to the first edition, in that it reverses the history of the English language. It takes present-day English as its point of departure, and gives historical explanations only in so far as they illustrate modern forms. The book does not presuppose a reading knowledge of Old and Middle English, but provides students with ready answers to questions they may have concerning modern "irregularities." Dutch and German examples and parallels, which might shed light on English forms and developments, have also been included. Comparisons not only heighten linguistic awareness on the part of the reader, but also to show what exactly happened in closely related languages.

The subject of Images of America in Scandinavia, the first comprehensive study of its kind, is as multifaceted, complex, and overwhelming as America or the United States, itself. It concerns the nature and function, reality and fiction of such images in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden past and present. The book is intended to be a source of solid information as well as a starting point for further inquiries into its cultural territory. Part of its focus is on images of America rooted in printed sources, but, in addition, general surveys of other cultural signs of America in the Scandinavian countries present a broader picture and provide some of the background for the predominantly literary imag...

Medieval Spirituality in Scandinavia and Europe

Tore Nyberg, senior lecturer at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense, celebrated his seventieth birthday on January 4, 2001. For that occasion a group of his colleagues and former pupils have wished to pay homage to Tore Nyberg with a festschrift. His is a household name in Birgittine studies, but he has made valuable contributions within a number of other fields: the introduction and growth of Christianity in Scandinavia; the integration of Scandinavia and the Baltic Region in the cultural sphere of the Latin West, always with an eye to relations with and influences from the East; urban history; and monasticism in general. Within all these fields he has mastered both the detailed study and the comprehensive synthesis.
