This book provides a most unique approach to understanding the revelations that occurred in the Johnson Home in Hiram, Ohio over the period of less than a year. Nearly half of the sections in the Doctrine and Covenants were received in the 7 years the Church was headquartered in Kirtland, Ohio and surrounding area. The Johnson Home was the third of five homes that served as both living quarters for the Prophet and Emma as well as Church headquarters during the Kirtland period. In this home over a period of about 10 months, the Prophet received 16 revelations recorded in the Doctrine and Covenants, as well as part of another one. Additionally, well over half of the Joseph Smith Bible Translation was accomplished there, i.e., he made nearly 2000 inspired changes in the Bible while living in the Johnson Home. It is no wonder the bedroom he used as an office is often referred to as the Revelation Room. Clearly, no other place in Church history was as saturated with revelation than the year the Prophet and Emma lived there. Together, the revelations and the context in which they were received tell a story about one amazing year of the Restoration.

Creative Uses of Children's Literature

A grim prognosis, brain cancer, leaves the speaker in Kirkpatrick's Odessa fighting for her life. The tumor presses against her amygdalae, the "emotional core of the self," and central to the process of memory. In poems endowed with this emotional charge but void of sentimentality, Kirkpatrick sets out to recreate what was lost by fashioning a dreamlike reality. Odessa, "roof of the underworld," a refuge at once real and imagined, resembles simultaneously the Midwestern prairie and a mythical god-inhabited city. In image-packed lines bearing shades of Classical heroism, Kirkpatrick delivers a personal narrative of stunning dimension.

The Micronucleus Assay in Toxicology

Concerns about the adverse health effects of chemicals and radiation present in the environment and at workplaces have created the need for better detection systems to assess their potential to cause DNA damage in humans and other organisms across ecosystems. The Micronucleus Assay in Toxicology is the first comprehensive volume concerning the use of micronucleus assays in genetic toxicology. It succinctly explains the mechanisms by which genotoxins cause micronucleus formation and its relation to diseases. Furthermore, it describes the methods which are currently used for the analyses of micronuclei in different types of cells in human in vivo biomonitoring studies, routine in vivo tests wi...
