Deadly Thirst

Deadly Thirst is the true story of four-year-old foster child Andy Setzer, who was murdered in Perris California August 2, 1999. Deadly Thirst follows Andy from conception to burial and reveals, in riveting investigative style, the series of deadly blunders that led Riverside County Child Protection officials to herd him into a one-way slaughter chute of foster care and straight into the hands of death. Andy's story is a frightening journey into the grim, dark side of foster care. The author paints a gripping psychological portrait of Andy's killer, Theresa Barroso and her morass of lies as she strives to place the blame solely upon her withdrawn and mentally challenged husband. Equally compelling is a behind-the-scenes look into the investigation that revealed Barroso's habitual need to vent her anger on a defenseless child. The sensational courtroom drama is undeniably graphic, an absolute page-turner, resulting in a verdict that will shock even the most ardent readers of chilling true-crime. Includes thirteen pages of evidentiary documents and crime scene photos.

Electric Vehicles In Shared Fleets: Mobility Management, Business Models, And Decision Support Systems

The electrification of shared fleets offers numerous benefits, including the reduction of local emissions of pollutants, which leads to ecological improvements such as the improvement of air quality. Electric Vehicles in Shared Fleets considers a holistic concept for a socio-technical system with a focus on three core areas: integrated mobility solutions, business models for economic viability, and information systems that support decision-making for the successful implementation and operation of electric vehicles in shared fleets. In this book, we examine different aspects within these areas including multimodal mobility, grid integration of electric vehicles, shared autonomous electric vehicle services, relocation strategies in shared fleets, and the challenge of battery life of electric vehicles. Insights into the future of transport are provided, which is predicted to be shared, autonomous, and electric. This will require the expansion of the charging infrastructure to provide adequate premises for the electrification of transportation and to create market demand.

Baseball in Catawba County

Baseball first became popular in Catawba County as a means of entertainment and competition between mills and small towns. The county's longest standing baseball program started at Lenoir College in 1903. By the mid-1920s, a mill-supported semi-pro league had been firmly established. In the 30 years that followed, three different periods of professional minor league play were anchored by legendary players like Norman "Pinkie" James, Eddie Yount, Don Stafford, Dick Stoll, and Pud Miller. Even before the successful return of Minor League baseball in 1993, Catawba County had already had its share of brushes with famous players like Hoyt Wilhelm, Carl Hubbell, and Bob Feller and infamous ones like Edwin "Alabama" Pitts and "Struttin" Bud Shaney.
