This fully updated volume explores recently improved avenues to study urothelial carcinomas. Beginning with several novel chapters on molecular characterization and urothelial carcinogenesis, the book continues with sections on cellular and animal models, biomarkers, and approaches for targeted therapy. Written for the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology series, chapters include introductions to their respective topics, lists of the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step and readily reproducible laboratory protocols, as well as tips on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls. Authoritative and practical, Urothelial Carcinoma: Methods and Protocols, Second Edition serves as a valuable resource to further increase our knowledge on urothelial carcinoma and also to aid research on numerous other cancers.
At present there are a growing number of biomolecules under investigation to understand their potential role as cancer biomarker for diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic purposes. Intriguingly, the state of art on cancer biomarkers research shows interesting and promising results together to clamorous failures. Also from a clinical point of view, there are contradictory results on routine clinical use of the present cancer biomarkers. Some patients may be simply monitored in their course by a periodic blood sample, but sometimes this monitoring shows dramatic limits. A lot of patients show serious and extensive relapses without significant change in serum concentrations of biomarkers teste...
This book is a printed edition of the Special Issue "Diagnostic, Prognostic and Predictive Biomarkers in Prostate Cancer" that was published in IJMS
After our successful first Special Issue about bladder cancer, we proceeded with the second issue. Again, many international scientists submitted their newest research results in that extremely interesting field and followed our call for submissions. It is not only the collection and combination of old and new markers that could develop new possibilities, but also the focus on different classifications and sub-classifications that will unveil new ways in diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. It seems that the two established diagnostic tools will still play an important role, but new markers and diagnostics tools will present more detailed and more differentiated possibilities in the treatm...
Bladder cancer is one of the most common urological diseases with a high mortality rate and poor prognosis. It is currently ranked as the 10th most common malignancy worldwide. The majority of bladder cancer patients have been found to be diagnosed with non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) and the remaining, are diagnosed with muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC). Although there have been advances in the treatment and therapies provided for bladder cancer patients, the survival rate remains low, primarily due to recurrence and metastasis of the disease following treatment. Surgical treatment is currently the most common form including radical cystectomy which is the standard form of t...

Digital scholarly editing has a long-standing tradition in the humanities. It is of crucial importance within disciplines such as literary studies, philology, history, philosophy, library and information science, and bibliography. This volume shows how digital scholarly editing is still developing and constantly redefining itself.
The appearance of mapping class groups in mathematics is ubiquitous. The book presents 23 papers containing problems about mapping class groups, the moduli space of Riemann surfaces, Teichmuller geometry, and related areas. Each paper focusses completely on open problems and directions. The problems range in scope from specific computations, to broad programs. The goal is to have a rich source of problems which have been formulated explicitly and accessibly. The book is divided into four parts. Part I contains problems on the combinatorial and (co)homological group-theoretic aspects of mapping class groups, and the way in which these relate to problems in geometry and topology. Part II conce...
This volume presents the state of the art in digital scholarly editing. Drawing together the work of established and emerging researchers, it gives pause at a crucial moment in the history of technology in order to offer a sustained reflection on the practices involved in producing, editing and reading digital scholarly editions—and the theories that underpin them. The unrelenting progress of computer technology has changed the nature of textual scholarship at the most fundamental level: the way editors and scholars work, the tools they use to do such work and the research questions they attempt to answer have all been affected. Each of the essays in Digital Scholarly Editing approaches th...
