Z recenzji prof. dr hab. Grażyny Prawelskiej-Skrzypek, Instytut Spraw Publicznych Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego Może imponować swoboda i wnikliwość, z jaką Autorka porusza się w omawianej problematyce. Czytelnik znajdzie tu nie tylko omówienia różnych poglądów i ujęć, lecz także przekonujące przedstawienie ewolucji podejścia do rozwoju miast i syntetyczny opis konsekwencji wdrażania różnych konceptów. (…) W rezultacie powstało oryginalne i unikalne w polskiej literaturze kompendium wiedzy o roli kultury w rozwoju współczesnych miast. Jest to praca dobrze przemyślana i ułożona, starannie zredagowana i napisana ładnym językiem. Z recenzji prof. dr hab. Jerzego Hausnera, Uniwersytet Ekonomiczny w Krakowie
Clusters of firms and related organisations in a range of industry specialisations are a striking feature of the economic landscape in all countries. Their growth and survival depends on internal processes of specialisation, co-operation and rivalry, and knowledge flows that underpin the competitiveness of the firms within them. Cluster building is now among the most important economic development activities in OECD countries and beyond. This book looks at the importance and potential of cluster initiatives in Central and Eastern Europe as these countries integrate ever more strongly into the global economy. Existing clusters are mapped, recent policy advances are described and conclusions are drawn on the potential of business clusters to foster economic growth in the wider Central, East and South East European region.
This Expo book brings together leading academic and policymaker experts to reflect on the significant challenges faced by lagging regions in participating in the European Union’s Research and Innovation Strategies for Smart Specialisation (RIS3) programme. The auto sector is North America’s most iconic of industries. Since the North American Free Trade Agreement came into existence in 1994, the sector has undergone tremendous change: escalating concerns around climate change, advances in electric and automated vehicles, deindustrialization/reindustrialization, and the rise of low-cost locations as hubs for manufacturing. The North American Auto Industry since NAFTA examines the issues that have preoccupied the development of policy associated with the manufacture of automobiles in North America. The collection addresses the punctuations that have afflicted the industry since NAFTA’s implementation as well as the slower, incremental evoluti...

Interfirm networks include franchising, retail and service chains, cooperatives, financial networks, joint ventures, strategic alliances, licensing, public-private partnerships and new network forms in the digital economy. This book gathers the latest research studies that approach these networks – and the creation of innovation under the conditions of a complex, dynamic, knowledge-intensive and digital economy – from an interdisciplinary perspective. The studies, all of which were written by respected experts, explore how firms can improve their competitiveness by securing access to innovation, knowledge, complementary resources and capabilities otherwise not available to them. In addition, they highlight how, driven by an unpredictable environment, firms embedded in inter-organizational networks are increasingly transforming from co-operators to collaborators and valuable co-creators of innovation.
