The Oscillator Duality Correspondence for the Pair $O(2,2)$, $SP(2,{\mathbb R})$

We calculate this correspondence and show that the unitary representation of O(2, 2), are mapped to unitary representations of Sp(2, [bold]R).

Symmetry, Representations, and Invariants

Symmetry, Representations, and Invariants

Symmetry is a key ingredient in many mathematical, physical, and biological theories. Using representation theory and invariant theory to analyze the symmetries that arise from group actions, and with strong emphasis on the geometry and basic theory of Lie groups and Lie algebras, Symmetry, Representations, and Invariants is a significant reworking of an earlier highly-acclaimed work by the authors. The result is a comprehensive introduction to Lie theory, representation theory, invariant theory, and algebraic groups, in a new presentation that is more accessible to students and includes a broader range of applications. The philosophy of the earlier book is retained, i.e., presenting the pri...

Vertex Algebras and Integral Bases for the Enveloping Algebras of Affine Lie Algebras

We present a new proof of the identities needed to exhibit an explicit [bold]Z-basis for the universal enveloping algebra associated to an affine Lie algebra. We then use the explicit [bold]Z-bases to extend Borcherds' description, via vertex operator representations, of a [bold]Z-form of the enveloping algebras for the simply-laced affine Lie algebras to the enveloping algebras associated to the unequal root length affine Lie algebras.

Transfer of Siegel Cusp Forms of Degree 2

Let be the automorphic representation of generated by a full level cuspidal Siegel eigenform that is not a Saito-Kurokawa lift, and be an arbitrary cuspidal, automorphic representation of . Using Furusawa's integral representation for combined with a pullback formula involving the unitary group , the authors prove that the -functions are "nice". The converse theorem of Cogdell and Piatetski-Shapiro then implies that such representations have a functorial lifting to a cuspidal representation of . Combined with the exterior-square lifting of Kim, this also leads to a functorial lifting of to a cuspidal representation of . As an application, the authors obtain analytic properties of various -functions related to full level Siegel cusp forms. They also obtain special value results for and

In Contributions to Automorphic Forms, Geometry, and Number Theory, Haruzo Hida, Dinakar Ramakrishnan, and Freydoon Shahidi bring together a distinguished group of experts to explore automorphic forms, principally via the associated L-functions, representation theory, and geometry. Because these themes are at the cutting edge of a central area of modern mathematics, and are related to the philosophical base of Wiles' proof of Fermat's last theorem, this book will be of interest to working mathematicians and students alike. Never previously published, the contributions to this volume expose the reader to a host of difficult and thought-provoking problems. Each of the extraordinary and notewor...

Representations of Real and P-adic Groups

The Institute for Mathematical Sciences at the National University of Singapore hosted a research program on ?Representation Theory of Lie Groups? from July 2002 to January 2003. As part of the program, tutorials for graduate students and junior researchers were given by leading experts in the field. This invaluable volume collects the expanded lecture notes of those tutorials. The topics covered include uncertainty principles for locally compact abelian groups, fundamentals of representations of p-adic groups, the Harish-Chandra-Howe local character expansion, classification of the square-integrable representations modulo cuspidal data, Dirac cohomology and Vogan's conjecture, multiplicity-f...

Kernel Functions, Analytic Torsion, and Moduli Spaces

This memoir is a study of Ray-Singer analytic torsion for hermitian vector bundles on a compact Riemann surface [italic]C. The torsion is expressed through the trace of a modified resolvent. Thus, one can develop perturbation-curvature formulae for the Green-Szegö kernel and also for the torsion in terms of the Ahlfors-Bers complex structure of the Teichmuller space and Mumford complex structure of the moduli space of stable bundles of degree zero on [italic]C.

This book features a selection of articles based on the XXXIV Białowieża Workshop on Geometric Methods in Physics, 2015. The articles presented are mathematically rigorous, include important physical implications and address the application of geometry in classical and quantum physics. Special attention deserves the session devoted to discussions of Gerard Emch's most important and lasting achievements in mathematical physics. The Białowieża workshops are among the most important meetings in the field and gather participants from mathematics and physics alike. Despite their long tradition, the Workshops remain at the cutting edge of ongoing research. For the past several years, the Białowieża Workshop has been followed by a School on Geometry and Physics, where advanced lectures for graduate students and young researchers are presented. The unique atmosphere of the Workshop and School is enhanced by the venue, framed by the natural beauty of the Białowieża forest in eastern Poland.

Sum of Even Powers of Real Linear Forms

This work initiates a systematic analysis of the representation of real forms of even degree as sums of powers of linear forms and the resulting implications in real algebraic geometry, number theory, combinatorics, functional analysis, and numerical analysis. The proofs utilize elementary techniques from linear algebra, convexity, number theory, and real algebraic geometry and many explicit examples and relevant historical remarks are presented.
