The Theory of the Marketing Firm

The marketing firm is that business organisation which responds to the imperatives of consumer-orientation. Its style of management is marked by its adherence to the criteria of goal separation, participation in marketing transactions, entrepreneurial sovereignty and reciprocal entrepreneurial management, all of which are explored in this pioneering book. It assumes the proposition, uncontroversial enough to marketing academics and students, that contemporary firms can survive and prosper – achieve their financial goal, be it the maximization of profit or sales or growth – only if they respond appropriately to those imperatives: specifically, the forces that promote consumer discretion a...

Islamophobia in Non-Western Online Newspapers

The media attention towards Islam has increased recently, but meeting the quality standards in reporting the religion is often of great concern in this regard. This issue has been debated since the aftermath of violent incidents such as the 9/11 attacks in 2001, the Afghanistan War in 2002, the Iraq War in 2003, the Danish cartoon row in 2005, the London bombings in 2005, the Paris attacks in 2015, and the New Zealand shootings in 2017. In reporting violence, the media tend to construct a negative image of Islam, which is likely to reproduce unfounded hostility toward Islam and Muslims, known as Islamophobia. This book provides a systematic analysis of how non-western online newspapers reproduce Islamophobia in news reporting.

Celestial Harmonies

A biographical novel in the grand European literary tradition that spans multiple generations and three centuries of tumultuous Central European history, as witnessed by the Esterhazys, a leading Hungarian family. The Esterhazys, one of Europe's most prominent aristocratic families, are indelibly inscribed in the history of the Hapsburg Empire. Having gone through epic conquest, tragedy, triumph and near destruction, the Esterhazy family lore is rich, poignant, entertaining and awe-inspiring. 'Celestial Harmonies' is a national epic in the form of fiction, which Esterhazy writes by reinventing the traditional form of the dynastic saga. Beginning with short sections narrated in the first pers...

The world is looking East. Whilst in the West psychoanalysis is fighting to maintain its position among the other therapies in a society which has less time for introspection and self-reflective thought, in Asia a new frontier is opening up: we are witnessing a surge of interest for psychoanalysis among the mental health professionals and among the younger generations, interest which is articulated and nuanced differently in the different Asian countries. In Asia and particularly in India, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and China, the development of psychoanalysis reflects separate socio-political historical contexts, each with a rich cultural texture and fuelled by the interest of a new generation of mental health professionals for psychoanalysis as a therapeutic method.
