Early Urban Life in the Land of Anshan
This book provides summary data on the archaeological excavations of Banesh Period (ca. 3400-2600 B.C.) levels in Operation ABC at Tal-e Malyan, site of the Elamite royal city of Anshan. Automotive Production Systems and Standardisation
In January 2000, Mercedes-Benz started to implement the Mercedes-Benz Prod- tion System (MPS) throughout its world-wide passenger car plants. This event is exemplary of a trend within the automotive industry: the creation and introduction of company-specific standardised production systems. It gradually emerged with the introduction of the Chrysler Operating System (COS) in the mid-1990s and represents a distinct step in the process towards implementing the universal pr- ciples of lean thinking as propagated by the MIT-study. For the academic field of industrial sociology and labour policy, the emergence of this trend seems to mark a new stage in the evolution of the debate about production systems in the auto- tive industry (Jürgens 2002:2), particularly as it seems to undermine the stand of the critics of the one-best way model (Boyer and Freyssenet 1995). The introduction of company-level standardised production systems marks the starting point of the present study. At the core of it is a case study about the M- cedes Benz Production System (MPS).
Production at the leading edge of technology
The focus of the Congress will be leading-edge manufacturing processes. Topics include manufacturing at extreme speed, size, accuracy, methodology, use of resources, interdisciplinarity and more. Contributions from production and industrial engineering are welcome. Challenges from the areas of manufacturing, machines and production systems will be addressed. Production research constantly pushes the boundaries of what is feasible. Microbial Production of High-Value Products

Charm Production in Deep Inelastic Scattering
The production of heavy quarks in high-energy experiments offers a rich field to study, both experimentally and theoretically. Due to the additional quark mass, the description of these processes in the framework of perturbative QCD is much more demanding than it is for those involving only massless partons. In the last two decades, a large amount of precision data has been collected by the deep inelastic HERA experiment. In order to make full use of these data, a more precise theoretical description of charm quark production in deep inelastic scattering is needed. This work deals with the first calculation of fixed moments of the NNLO heavy flavor corrections to the proton structure function F2 in the limit of a small charm-quark mass. The correct treatment of these terms will allow not only a more precise analysis of the HERA data, but starting from there also a more precise determination of the parton distribution functions and the strong coupling constant, which is an essential input for LHC physics. The complexity of this calculation requires the application and development of technical and mathematical methods, which are also explained here in detail.
