Aniridia

The aim of this book is to highlight the latest findings in Aniridia research. Aniridia, meaning “without iris”, is a rare genetic disorder affecting vision, characterized by the incomplete formation of the iris (the coloured part of the eye that surrounds the black pupil). It may also cause other segments of the eye to be under-developed such as the optic nerve and the macula (the central part of the retina). Aniridia and associated conditions affect individuals differently. So while some affected people are partially sighted or blind, others may have near normal sight. Aniridia is congenital (present at birth) and is caused by a dysfunction of the PAX6 gene, situated on the 11th chromosome that causes the premature cessation of eye development. Aniridia affects between 1:40,000 to 1:100,000 people, and affects males and females equally. People with Aniridia may also experience secondary conditions such as Photophobia, Nystagmus, Glaucoma, Cataracts and Keratopathy.

Superconductors

Book "Superconductors - Properties, Technology, and Applications" gives an overview of major problems encountered in this field of study. Most of the material presented in this book is the result of authors' own research that has been carried out over a long period of time. A number of chapters thoroughly describe the fundamental electrical and structural properties of the superconductors as well as the methods researching those properties. The sourcebook comprehensively covers the advanced techniques and concepts of superconductivity. It's intended for a wide range of readers.

International Symposium on Quantum Chromodynamics and Color Confinement, CONFINEMENT 2000

The quark confinement mechanism is one of the most difficult problems in particle physics, and is listed as the 7 difficult mathematical problems of the new millennium. The first person who first solves this problem will be awarded a prize of US$ 1 Million by Cray Mathematics Institute. This volume is useful for the systematic understanding of quark confinement and nonperturbative aspects of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) from the wide viewpoints of mathematical physics, lattice QCD physics and quark-hadron physics. It covers the current studies of nonperturbative QCD: quark confinement mechanism; topologies in QCD (instantons, monopoles and vortices); BRS quartet mechanism for color confinement; lattice QCD calculations for quarks, gluons and hadrons; dynamical chiral symmetry breaking and hadrons.

Essentials of Pediatric Cataract Surgery

The book highlights various pediatric cataract surgeries. It covers variants of pediatric cataract along with other rare morphologies. It covers selected challenging clinical situations along with surgical management steps. Additionally, it includes the management of surgical complications. The book provides relevant concise text supported by clinical pictures and includes 50 short videos. This book is a collection of clinical images and videos over 2 decades. Chapters cover recent advances in the field of pediatric cataract, such as ultrasound biomicroscopy, intraoperative rhexis assistant, operative room aberrometry. The accompanying video describes the surgical procedures with a voiceover lucidly explaining every step. It discusses unique cases of buphthalmous with cataract, anterior segment dysgenesis, persistent fetal vasculature and pre-existing persistent capsular defect with their latest management techniques. This book is relevant for practicing ophthalmologists and students alike.

The Letters of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, 1814-1843

Most of the letters, which are of prime importance in America's cultural history, have never before been published. The remainder that have appeared in print frequently did so in emasculated form and in a wide variety of books and journals. Here, scrupulous annotations supply relevant identifications of individuals, explain allusions, and present information regarding the addresses of letters, endorsements, postmarks, and the location of manuscripts.

Quark-Gluon Plasma

Quark-Gluon Plasma

Quark-Gluon Plasma introduces the primordial matter, composed of two types of elementary particles, created at the time of the Big Bang. During the evolution of the universe, Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) undergoes a transition to hadronic matter governed by quantum chromodynamics, the law of strong interactions. After an introduction to gauge theories, various aspects of quantum chromodynamic phase transitions are illustrated in a self-contained manner. The cosmological approach and renormalization group are discussed, as well as the cosmological and astrophysical implications of QGP, on the basis of Einstein's equations. Recent developments towards the formation of QGP in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions are also presented in detail. This text is suitable as an introduction for graduate students, as well as providing a valuable reference for researchers already working in this and related fields. It includes eight appendices and over a hundred exercises.
