Prof. dr. H.J. Prakke, wetenschappelijk uitgever en communicatiewetenschapper avant la lettre, was een ware duizendpoot. Hij bouwde een solide wetenschappelijk fonds van hoge kwaliteit op en moderniseerde Van Gorcum op voortvarende wijze. Daarnaast deed hij zelf aan wetenschap. Welke boodschap heeft hij voor uitgevers, communicatie- en boekwetenschappers van nu? In zijn werk was Prakke sterk op kwaliteit en op mensen gericht. In Duitse gevangenschap koos hij als lijfspreuk ‘de mens zij de mens een heilige zaak’. Bij alles wat hij tot stand bracht was dit zijn mensvisie. De jaarlijkse Tiele-lezing, waarin actuele thema’s uit de boekwetenschap worden belicht, wordt georganiseerd door de Dr. P.A. Tiele-Stichting in samenwerking met de Koninklijke Bibliotheek in Den Haag. Eerdere Tiele-lezingen werden gehouden door Paul Hoftijzer (2002), Frans A. Janssen (2003), Gerard Unger (2004), Joost Kist (2005), Ludo Simons (2006) en Ronald Soetaert (2007).

In this study the engagement of scholars in theology and religious studies with Freudian psychoanalysis is examined. The book focuses on the explicit or implicit theological ideas and aims that have determined its reception. The analysis includes a review of Freud's theories as suggestions for reconfigurations of psychoanalysis are made in order to further theorize on concepts or fields of attention that are important in theology and religious studies. The aim of this double critical review is to establish what the theoretical potential of Freud's psychoanalysis might be.

Liberty and Religion: Church and State in Leiden's Reformation, 1572-1620
Leiden was the second largest city of the early modern Dutch Republic. This city became officially Protestant in 1572, but it took fifty years before the Reformed Church settled completely into the city's polity and society. This was largely due to disagreements between the city's ruling elites and the Reformed leaders about how much independence the church should enjoy. This book examines the establishment and early history of the Reformed community of Leiden. The evolution of the controversy between church and state is examined, from the 1570s, during the Dutch Revolt, to the early 1620s - the beginning of the Dutch Republic's Golden Age. It also examines the consequences of this controversy for Leiden's non-Reformed confessions, especially Catholics, Lutherans and Mennonites, and places the case of Leiden in a wider Dutch and European context.
