Exploitation of Fine-Grain Parallelism

Exploitation of Fine-Grain Parallelism

Many parallel computer architectures are especially suited for particular classes of applications. However, there are only a few parallel architectures equally well suited for standard programs. Much effort is invested into research in compiler techniques to make programming parallel machines easier. This book presents methods for automatic parallelization, so that programs need not to be tailored for specific architectures; here the focus is on fine-grain parallelism, offered by most new microprocessor architectures. The book addresses compiler writers, computer architects, and students by demonstrating the manifold complex relationships between architecture and compiler technology.

Job Scheduling Strategies for Parallel Processing

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 24th International Workshop on Job Scheduling Strategies for Parallel Processing, JSSPP 2021, held as a virtual event in May 2021 (due to the Covid-19 pandemic). The 10 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 17 submissions. In addition to this, one keynote paper was included in the workshop. The volume contains two sections: Open Scheduling Problems and Proposals and Technical Papers. The papers cover such topics as parallel computing, distributed systems, workload modeling, performance optimization, and others.

This volume contains the papers presented at the 13th International Wo- shop on Approximation Algorithms for Combinatorial Optimization Problems (APPROX 2010) and the 14th International Workshop on Randomization and Computation (RANDOM 2010), which took place concurrently in Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) Barcelona, Spain, during September 1-3, 2010. APPROX focuses on algorithmic and complexity issues surrounding the dev- opment of e?cient approximate solutions to computationally di?cult problems, and was the 13th in the series after Aalborg (1998), Berkeley (1999), Sa- brücken (2000), Berkeley (2001), Rome (2002), Princeton (2003), Cambridge (2004), Berkeley (2005), Barcelona (2006), Princeton (2007), Boston (2008) and Berkeley (2009). RANDOM is concerned with applications of randomness to computational and combinatorial problems, and was the 14th workshop in the - ries following Bologna (1997), Barcelona (1998), Berkeley (1999), Geneva (2000), Berkeley (2001), Harvard (2002), Princeton (2003), Cambridge (2004), Berkeley (2005), Barcelona (2006), Princeton (2007), Boston (2008), and Berkeley (2009).

Scheduling

This new edition of the well established text Scheduling - Theory, Algorithms, and Systems provides an up-to-date coverage of important theoretical models in the scheduling literature as well as significant scheduling problems that occur in the real world. It again includes supplementary material in the form of slide-shows from industry and movies that show implementations of scheduling systems. The main structure of the book as per previous edition consists of three parts. The first part focuses on deterministic scheduling and the related combinatorial problems. The second part covers probabilistic scheduling models; in this part it is assumed that processing times and other problem data ar...

Hardware Design and Petri Nets

Hardware Design and Petri Nets presents a summary of the state of the art in the applications of Petri nets to designing digital systems and circuits. The area of hardware design has traditionally been a fertile field for research in concurrency and Petri nets. Many new ideas about modelling and analysis of concurrent systems, and Petri nets in particular, originated in theory of asynchronous digital circuits. Similarly, the theory and practice of digital circuit design have always recognized Petri nets as a powerful and easy-to-understand modelling tool. The ever-growing demand in the electronic industry for design automation to build various types of computer-based systems creates many opp...

Grid Computing

Grid Computing: Achievements and Prospects, the 9th edited volume of the CoreGRID series, includes selected papers from the CoreGRID Integration Workshop, held April 2008 in Heraklion-Crete, Greece. This event brings together representatives of the academic and industrial communities performing Grid research in Europe. The workshop was organized in the context of the CoreGRID Network of Excellence in order to provide a forum for the presentation and exchange of views on the latest developments in grid technology research. Grid Computing: Achievements and Prospects is designed for a professional audience, composed of researchers and practitioners in industry. This volume is also suitable for graduate-level students in computer science.
