Annotation. In today's complex, fast-paced, and high-intensity organizations, effective communication is paramount. The Listening Leader is about improving communication by focusing on listening, and in the process, developing more effective leadership skills. It explores ways in which managers and front-line employees alike can elevate listening to the level of influence itself--to maximize conversational value and relationships through response and feedback. Richard Harris integrates insights from management and psychology to offer practical techniques for overcoming common barriers to effective listening. With tips for keeping listening sharp and advice for boosting memory and recall, he provides readers with the tools to engage in more productive dialogue with others--at work and beyond. The Listening Leader demonstrates that turning a passive, compliant role into an active, influential one contributes to more dynamic, trusting, collaborative, candid--and profitable--relationships through which everyone benefits.
From the Popol Vuh to postmodernism, imagery of the natural world has played an important role in Latin American literature. In contrast to the rise of ecocritical scholarship in Anglophone literary studies, Latin American literary ecocriticism has been slower to take root. This volume of eleven essays seeks to advance the ecocritical conversation among Latin Americanists, furthering insight into the relationship between humans and their environments. The essays address regions as diverse as Patagonia and the Chihuahua Desert.
