Writing Beyond the State
This book investigates the imaginative capacities of literature, art and culture as sites for reimagining human rights, addressing deep historical and structural forms of belonging and unbelonging; the rise of xenophobia, neoliberal governance, and securitization that result in the purposeful precaritization of marginalized populations; ecological damage that threatens us all, yet the burdens of which are distributed unequally; and the possibility of decolonial and posthuman approaches to rights discourses. The book starts from the premise that there are deep-seated limits to the political possibilities of state and individual sovereignty in terms of protecting human rights around the world. The essays explore how different forms, materials, perspectives, and aesthetics can help reveal the limits of normative human rights and contribute to the cultural production of new human rights imaginaries beyond the borders of state and self.

Planetary Atmospheres and Urban Society After Fukushima
This collection examines the event of Fukushima in Japan in terms of urban sociology and cultural politics to portray the triple catastrophe of March 2011 as both a planetary event and a dual economic and environmental crisis which indelibly marked Japan and the wider global community. The contributors examine how this new situation has been expressed in particular cultural forms (literature, film), political discourses and urban everyday life in Tokyo and Fukushima, arguing for an imperative need to redefine the national frame of analysis in terms of the concept of the planetary. Building on recent debates in ecocriticism, Planetary Atmospheres and Urban Life After Fukushima deconstructs the spatial logic of containment that reduces the event of Fukushima to a place-bound object to instead reinscribe this event within an open narrative of the planetary. This we believe will allow us to redefine our topologies of attachment to local places beside national discourses of unity, resilience and global strategies of risk management, and open the way to a radical rethink of Japan’s cultural politics of Japan after March 2011.

The Ethical Pact
In the last thirty years a body of work has developed about autobiography as a literary genre and its ontological value. Philippe Lejeune's essay "The Autobiographical Pact" is now a classic in autobiographical studies. The essay was published in 1975 and translated into English in 1989 when it was anthologiesed by Paul John Eakin with its revision "The Autobiographical Pact (bis)" in which Lejeune revisits his original formalist definition of autobiography. James Olney's edited volume Autobiography, Essays Theoretical and Critical published in 1980 is generally recognized as the beginning of autobiography studies in the United States. The book, which does not include Lejeune's essay, represents an important ground for the study of autobiography and for its place as a genre distinct from the novel, a genre that, as Olney states, "like the life it mirrors refuses to stay still long enough for the genre critic to fit it out with the necessary rules, laws, contracts, and pacts [my emphasis]; it refuses, simply, to be a literary genre like any other." Italian Literature since 1900 in English Translation 1929-2016
Providing the most complete record possible of texts by Italian writers active after 1900, this annotated bibliography covers over 4,800 distinct editions of writings by some 1,700 Italian authors. Many entries are accompanied by useful notes that provide information on the authors, works, translators, and the reception of the translations.
