There Is No Was, the first novel by author Vicente James Hernandez, is a thirteen year long journey through the clumsy life of Walter, growing up in the late 90's and early 00's, as he struggles to measure up to the impossible standards of the world around him. To say he feels awkward among his peers is beyond an understatement. His mother drinks heavily, wandering in and out of the frame as he relocates to the beach to live with his father. Here, he begins to rack up failed attempts at being acknowledged by the fairer sex, all the while continuing his struggle to find a single human being he can relate to. High Performance Computing for Computational Science - VECPAR 2002
The 5th edition of the VECPAR series of conferences marked a change of the conference title. The full conference title now reads VECPAR 2002 — 5th Int- national Conference on High Performance Computing for Computational S- ence. This re?ects more accurately what has been the main emphasis of the conference since its early days in 1993 – the use of computers for solving pr- lems in science and engineering. The present postconference book includes the best papers and invited talks presented during the three days of the conference, held at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (Portugal), June 26–28 2002. The book is organized into 8 chapters, which as a whole appeal to a wide research community, from those involved in the engineering applications to those interested in the actual details of the hardware or software implementation, in line with what, in these days, tends to be considered as Computational Science and Engineering (CSE). The book comprises a total of 49 papers, with a prominent position reserved for the four invited talks and the two ?rst prizes of the best student paper competition.
From Genes to Personalized Healthcare
The main focus of this publication is on technologies, solutions and requirements that interest the grid and the life-science communities to foster the integration of grids into health. The proceedings are especially interesting for grid middleware and grid application developers, biomedical and health informatics users, and security and policy makers with a common focus on the application in the health domain. Topics in this publication are: State-of-the-art of the grid research and use at molecule, cell, organ, individual and population levels; and security and imaging.
