Cuando investigar se observa como un problema social, político y comunitario, el problema de la verdad se convierte en un asunto de valoración social sobre el resultado ofrecido, después de procesos altamente formalizados. Justo esta transformación es la que permite que la investigación en las artes y las humanidades entre en tensión con la investigación científica experimental, en la definición de lo que significa investigar.
